Teen Struck With Hammer During Brawl At Near North McDonald's, Police Say

Police say a teenage girl was hit in the face with a hammer during a brawl inside a McDonalds near the Magnificent Mile on Monday evening. A suspect is in custody.

Officers responded to the restaurant at 10 East Chicago after a series of 911 callers reported people fighting inside while spectators recorded the action on phones.

Witnesses told police that an argument broke out between the 16-year-old victim and an adult woman around 9:20 p.m., according to CPD’s Office of News Affairs. The situation escalated and turned physical. A police radio dispatcher said callers reported that participants were armed with “mops and a hammer.”

Arriving officers arrived to find a 36-year-old woman behind the counter with a hammer and the teenage victim with a laceration on her forehead, police said. The hammer was secured, and police took the woman into custody. Charges are pending, police said this morning.

The victim was transported to Comer Children's Hospital for treatment.
