COPS: Man Had Gun, Ski Mask, Surgical Gloves on Mag Mile

Police say Jecorrey Duncan had an unusual assortment of supplies in his backpack. | CPD; Google
It all started so simply.

Cops working the Mag Mile around 12:30 a.m. on July 8 stopped a group of men outside the Drake Hotel at 961 North Michigan after seeing one of the guys toss a plastic bottle at a passing vehicle, according to court records.

As officers approached the group, Jecorrey Duncan Jr broke away from the rest and tried to hide his backpack behind a nearby flower planter, cops said.

Thinking that was odd, an officer asked Duncan if he had anything in the bag that he shouldn’t have.

His answer, reportedly captured on the officer’s body camera: “I have a gun!”

Not only did cops retrieve a 9-millimeter handgun with five live rounds from Duncan’s backpack, but they also pulled out a black ski mask, dark clothing, and a Ziploc bag stuffed with surgical gloves, officers said.

Duncan, of Garfield Park, is charged with one count of felony unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21.

  1. Did he also have a full ride to UNC in the bag?

  3. This is why I hate this city and county. Why only one charge? How about no FOID and no CCW.

Why not him with several felonies and let him plead down to one felony. Instead the ASA is going to let him plead down to a misdemeanor and give him probation or less,

    1. I assure you, more charges will be added at arraignment. For now they need just one for the bond hearing.

I also can assure you that the State's Attorney won't offer a misdemeanor here. They don't offer misdemeanors on gun cases, especially here where he was found with a mask and gloves.

    2. While I can't agree with you more, the cops probably only charge people with they feel is solid enough to stick. Those other charges you mentioned would get tossed out in a huge city like Chicago with so much always going on. Now in the boring burbs, they would of hit him with anything and everything on top of investigating him for any type of possible robbery connections.

  5. He's an amateur. Should've been hanging out in Tunney's district if he planned on robbing and stealing.

  6. I live around this neighborhood, as with most who have 60611 zip codes, we demand police presence and action. Great job!

    1. Good job for the officers who did this. Odds are it was Bureau of Patrol officers and not our local 018 folks.
