A five-time convicted felon, free on parole since January 13, is now charged with robbing a Lakeview woman at gunpoint in Lincoln Park last Thursday night.

21-year-old Jamal Dumas of Mount Prospect pushed the 28-year-old woman into a gangway in the 1800 block of North Clark around 11 p.m., just steps from the entrance of  Hotel Lincoln, police said.

There, he pulled out a handgun and forced the woman to turn over her purse before fleeing, according to prosecutors.

A police squad car just happened to be passing by and Dumas was quickly taken into custody. He was carrying a 9-millimeter handgun, cops said.

Dumas is a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, according to police, and court records show that he has been convicted three times of firearms violations. His prison record includes:
• Four years for being a felon in possession of a weapon in 2013
• Five years for possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number in 2014
• Another five years for being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2014.
Dumas also received 30 months probation for a 2012 Evanston robbery, according to court records.

His bail is set at $750,000.

  1. Let's do the math. 4+5+5 years of prison sentences (plus 30 months probation) all since 2013,and somehow he is out at the beginning of 2017. That's either time travel or funny math (or a very broken justice system)

    1. 2013 he was seventeen and was a felon in possession of handgun. So he also has a juvenile criminal record of a felony(ies) . I'm sure charges were dropped for the gun convictions pleas. (Other felonies) with day for day timed served and concurrent sentencing in our prison system the math works out.

  7. Haha...was gonna say, that last name is perfect. Dumas. Dumbass. Hope he rots in prison...but he'll probably be let go, being a repeat offender and all.

  8. Truth in sentencing, hold the judges and states attorneys accountable, and conceal carry. End of problem.
