Masked Gunmen Rob Woman In Lakeview Tuesday Afternoon

Two masked and armed men robbed a woman at gunpoint in southeast Lakeview on Tuesday afternoon and then fled the area in a vehicle that was reported taken in an armed carjacking days earlier, police said.

The woman was walking in the 500 block of West Oakdale when two offenders approached her, displayed a handgun, and took her purse around 3:15 p.m.

Both offenders then jumped into a gray 4-door Toyota Camry with a license plate of E957467 and sped off toward Clark Street.

That vehicle was reported taken in a carjacking in Chinatown on May 1, according to police records.

Witnesses described the primary offenders as two black men wearing masks. The gunman had long dreadlocks, stood about 5’7” tall, and weighed about 140 pounds. He is believed to be in his early- to mid-20’s, police said.

  1. I'm generally not a proponent of concealed carry but, with the severity of crimes rapidly escalating in our neighborhood AND absolutely no support from the city to add more police to protect citizens, I am seriously reconsidering my position.

    1. Unfortunately it appears we are on our own.

    2. I have to say, an interesting thing occurs when you do get your CCL, besides finding yourself a lot more situationally aware. You become calm. Some ass cuts you off in traffic, then flips you off - you don't react like you may have in the past. They are simply not worth it. You'll have spent so much time and money on the classes, the license, and training (as well as weapon) to risk escalating the situation and losing it all on some jagoff. You'll find many instances where it's just not worth getting your blood pressure up.

  2. I never thought I'd love to see the days again when I only worried about getting mugged, carjacked or assualted if I was stupid enough to walk alone after midnight.
Then it became after 10 PM
    Then, not after dark...
Oh, the salad days of the past.
    3:45 in the afternoon! Seriously?

  3. A vehicle taken in an armed carjacking on May 1st ? ? They have been riding around for the past 10 or so days without being caught ? Wow ! If we only had a few more police on the street maybe they would have been caught. Rahm ? Tom ? (crickets) . . . . . .

  4. CHA Project coming to a block near YOU! CWB maybe you can cover this story, saw it last night on Ch7. Apparently the N & NW side Alderman said that the N & NW sides have not "Done enough" in their CHA Housing and are actually Looking to ADD " At Least" 50 MORE Units per Ward. Yea, sure, let's " Spread it around..." Goodbye N and NW Sides!

  5. I saw a baby bunny this evening while taking a stroll in the suburbs. Come rejoin civilization out here - sure it's boring yet you won't get robbed at gunpoint.

  6. I wonder if WGN will get the descriptions right if they bother to cover the incident at all.

  7. The middle of the afternoon, FFS! Parents are picking up kids from school at the time of day. Isn't Nettlehorst a few blocks away? There are no more "safe neighborhoods", folks. This city has tanked. I saw a comment on another thread here about conspiracy by the mayor and those close to him purposely letting the entire city tank, then buying up property at rock bottom, restoring some semblance of civilisation, and selling at huge profits.

    You may be right.

    1. Rahm is allowing all this building for campaign cash. It's unnecessary and unneeded.
