Armed Carjacker Strikes In North Center Man's Garage

| Image: It's Tactical
Another day, another armed carjacking.

A North Center man told police that an armed man stole his car at gunpoint in the 1800 block of West Oakdale on Tuesday evening.

The man had just pulled his silver 2015 Infinity Q50 into his garage when the gunman walked in behind him and stuck a semi-automatic handgun in his side around 8:10 p.m.

The offender jumped into the car and drove off eastbound in the alley, the victim said.

Police describe the offender as a 5’8” black man with short hair who weighs about 140 pounds and was wearing a black tracksuit with a white stripe on it.

Investigators believe a second car may have been involved in the incident, but no further details were available about that vehicle or its occupants.

Tuesday’s incident is the latest in a series of armed carjackings that have been reported across our area over the past two weeks.

Other recently reported carjacking incidents include:
• The 3600 block of North Recreation Drive around 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 6
Clark and Sheffield around 10:15 p.m. on Monday, May 1
• At the intersection of Cornelia and Pine Grove at 9:15 p.m. on April 30
Chicago police also issued an alert about a carjacking and auto theft spree in which six cars were taken within 12 hours on Friday, April 28.

  1. We officially live in a third world country. People live behind gates in those countries to avoid car jackers rushing into their garages.

    1. Really? How's your medical? How is your education and food and water? Also the crime here is no where close to what happens in 3rd world countries. Go check one out

    2. Well, it's certainly NOT civilized world behavior!!!!!!!

  2. It's like, we have thousands of city cameras and they can never catch these guys. How is that possible?

    1. The cameras are only there for catching over-taxed, law-abiding citizens for going thru a shortened yellow light or going a few miles over the speed limit. Our "leaders" have no intention of catching the bad guys....they don't have a pot to piss in, so they cannot collect any fees or fines from them. If anything, the bad guys COST the city money in regards to jail & court time. Therefore, they focus on catching a couple yuppies drinking a glass of wine in the park while they picnic ($100 ticket) or the red light/speed cameras. Criminals get a free pass with Rham and his minions, while the tax-payers get to live in the wild west with no police protection and pay, pay and pay some more.

  3. Seriously? Now I have to worry about getting jacked pulling into my garage? This goes beyond we live in a big city and crime occurs...and it goes beyond be aware of your surroundings. I always have kids with me...

  4. This is truly getting ridiculous. When is the mayor going to wake up and call a press conference saying this must end and tell us the plan of action? And the worst part is some of the citizens on the west and south sides don't even want the CPD there for a lack of trust. Send those officers our way.

    1. More Officers will do little. The crooked county laws and coward states attorney does not punish offenders and they do not get rehabilitation, they only hone their criminal skills in jail. Keep crying about criminals rights society. Reap what you sow

    2. Sometimes I wonder if there is some bizarre conspiracy theory going on...that the mayor and his rich investor buddies are purposely allowing the once, safe neighborhoods to become crime ridden hell holes. Once that happens, everyone leaves, selling their homes at rock bottom prices. Rahm & his investor pals swoop in and buy up everything at a deep discount, restore law & order, and resell/rent at premium prices, raking in billions.

I know this sounds ridiculous...but what is happening to our formerly safe areas IS ridiculous!! Why on earth would the mayor and our city leaders allow crime to infest every single corner of the city?? Eventually, all of the tax-paying citizens will move to the burbs and there will no longer be any taxes to collect. What the hell is going on in this city???

    3. They usually just skip the suburbs and head right to another state. The retirees have their move planned before they even sign their exit paperwork. I don't have the stats on that demographic but I'd be concerned about it in Illinois.

You wouldn't believe the Illinois retirees in my new surrounds. I was rather shocked as it ain't all that. They just refuse to pay those damn taxes anymore. It's really nice though because they go have loads of CASH and we don't have to deal with the financing bullshit.

  6. This is all swept under the rug. The issue is only 'gun violence' aimed at those who do not vote for people with the idea of additional gun control laws. The rest is you're in your own!

  7. I always back into my garage so I'm always facing the open door, and I shut the door before getting out if the car. You have to be smart! I also have a concealed carry license in case the preventive measure mentioned fails.

    1. What a way to live. Seriously, is it really worth all that?

    2. How is that a solution to anything? So now you can have the criminal's gun aimed at your face instead of the back of your head. Yes, you have to be smart, Einstein.

    3. Gives them more time to get in the garage while the door is open.

  8. we need easier to carry laws and city stations where to get the carry permits since Chicago no longer has enough police and the state only incarcerates criminals 1 year to 6 months any more and its like 7 years for murder
