NEW INFO: 3 Lakeview Pets Perish After Being Abandoned, Police Say

New information has emerged regarding an animal abuse and neglect case that was discovered in the 500 block of West Belmont recently.

Laserko | Chicago Police Dept
22-year-old Christina Laserko is accused of cruelty to animals and failure to perform animal owner duties, police said.

A building engineer who was working to fix a leak on December 23 entered Laserko's seventh-floor apartment at 505 West Belmont and found what he believed to be two dead dogs in "deplorable conditions," according to court records and a police source.

Now, police say that Laserko left her apartment in September 2016 and did not return to care for the animals.

Three pets perished from neglect: A pit bull breed named "Vinny" and two cats, "Georgia Moon" and "Champ," according to court records.

A Chicago Police Department gang and animal crimes investigation team said in court records that Laserko admitted to leaving the animals behind.

    5. If those were your animals then why didn't you have them or why weren't you there because than you are equally at fault

  2. These poor animals suffered.

If you won't/can't care for your animals, take them to the shelter where someone who will care for them can rescue them. And if an animal has to die, at least a shelter/pound will make sure they don't suffer a lingering death!

  4. As you'd expect with an animal abuser, there is no life in those dead lifeless eyes of "hers". What a pathetic excuse for a human being on multiple levels. Rot in hell.

  5. There's probably no life in her eyes because she has some sort of mental illness. No sane person would do this. Mental illness is the only cause for acts like this.

  6. How do we find out when and where the court date is for her?

    1. It's February 9, most likely at Belmont & Western. Perhaps the alderman's office can get the exact time and confirm location?
