Man Shot In Uptown Tuesday Is "Uncooperative," Cops Say

A 36-year-old  man became Uptown’s third gunshot victim of the new year Tuesday night.

Police said the man was shot in the leg outside of 921 West Wilson shortly after 6 p.m. He fell to the ground a few doors away with a wound to his right thigh.

Windows were also shot out at two nearby buildings, according to witnesses.

“Nuts, huh?” nearby resident Yehuda Rothschild‎ said. “This is the third [shooting] in the last year that I was right there for.”

Cops said the victim, who lives in the West Side’s Austin neighborhood, is not cooperating with their investigation. He was reported in good condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Arrest records show that the victim was charged with DUI in the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive last March and theft of labor or services in the Loop two years before that.

  1. "Uncooperative"? There should be no "cooperation" at the hospital either then unless services are paid for up front. I'm sure he could pull the cash out of his saggy jeans.

    1. "Uncooperative" means he's being uncooperative with the police investigation, not the hospital's billing structure.

    2. And we wonder why a trip to the ER costs so much...it's because they have to make up the money from treating deadbeat gangbangers for free.

But don't feel too bad about him being uncooperative. Sure, it means the shooter goes free, but it also gives the shooter another chance to take this guy out.

    3. And those 30 relatives and friends that show up in the ER room that haven't a clue where he lives, what his real name is, nor his phone number? I say drop a net over ALL of them until they decide to "cooperate" too.

This is a drain on our tax payed public safety services while I'm being brutally attacked for a cell phone or bike.

  2. Gang banger "victim", I say charge him with a crime and send him a bill for police, ambulance and hospital. keep his bling as collateral.

    1. They always do send a bill; the bangers just ignore it. I lived for six weeks with this crazy lady who kept getting sent to the psych ward for suicide attempts. One day I saw all her mail, including her unopened bills, in the garbage next to the mailbox and I brought it to her. She said she threw them out herself and had no intention of paying them.

  3. Perhaps leave the victim where he was shot. The city is low on funds and there is not enough manpower to pick up this gang member. He could always get an UBER.

    1. Yeah, with the credit or debit card I'm sure he has.

  4. What are the odds he knows who shot him and will retaliate?

  5. Another reason to leave Chicago and take your tax dollars with you. Why would any hardworking person want to pay for these gangbangers' hospital bills?

  6. Why dont they charge the gangbanger with aggravated battery? His being a gangbanger resulted in him being shot. Really not even joking.

  8. No such thing as a gang-banger "victim" of gang violence.
When you play Russian roulette, you aren't a 'victim' of chance. You're a willing participant in a deadly game.
    Enough is enough.

  9. So much for gentrifying Uptown. Condos in Buena Park are going vacant at a record pace. Addios, comrades. You get what you vote for.

  10. No cooperation? Get a paddy wagon, load him in the back and deliver him to the streets of Austin. In a pinch a garbage truck will do
