Charges Filed In Lakeview Party Bus Shooting

A 31-year-old Englewood man has been charged with shooting two passengers on a party bus near the Lakeview/Uptown border early Sunday morning.

Haynes | Chicago Police Dept
Victor Haynes got into an argument on the bus, and he then pulled out a gun and shot the men as the vehicle neared the 500 block of West Irving Park Road around 1:53 a.m., police said.

Haynes ran from the bus but was captured by police minutes later as he entered the lobby of a residential building at 3500 North Lake Shore Drive.

He is now charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery-discharge of a firearm and one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A 38-year-old man who was shot in the head during the incident remains in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The second victim, 33, is reportedly in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

On Sunday, police mistakenly said that the 38-year-old was 22.

Haynes also suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left hand, police said.

Haynes, who has felony convictions for narcotics violations, will be in bond court on Tuesday.

  1. All of these guys have survived into their 30's. Apparently a feat for many living in The inner cities. Still with their childish ways and death wishes, tho. How are the older men to be examples to the younger ones if they're still thugging and playing with guns? They have got to figure this out.

  2. No charge for a felon possessing a firearm? No assault with a deadly weapon? No attempted murder?

This guy will be on the street in what, 7 years tops?

    1. Thank your Democratic machine in Cook County. Their are no attempted murder charges anymore. They are UUW/unlawful use of weapon or AGG UUW/ Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon. That's why these guys serve less time in jail than a DUI driver.

  4. No doubt Kim (Cabrini) Foxx, Toni Tax Winkle and Toupee Tommy Dart will let the shooter out on home monitoring, turning off the ankle bracelet eight hours evert day so he could go work/sell drugs.

  8. So he shoots one person in the head and another person in the chest and he's charged with aggravated battery? We are doomed.

  9. When he shots himself on accident, he only shot his left hand. Damn it! Could we ask the judge that he be locked up in a small cell with concrete walls and let him KEEP his gun for practice while he's in custody? You know, with concrete walls that would cause the bullets to richoet like crazy.
