Rack up another homicide for Uptown.

A 25-year-old man was killed Sunday after being shot as he drove in the 4500 block of North Hazel around 8:50 p.m., police said.

The man was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to his head.

A neighbor who spoke with us believes the shooting is related to an earlier incident at the same intersection.

Around 4 p.m., a group of men was seen selling drugs when another man emerged from a gray vehicle and pulled a gun from under the car’s front seat.

The gunman did not shoot during the earlier incident and he fled before police arrived, the witness said.

Sunday's homicide was Uptown’s second shooting of the weekend.

A 24-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to his leg and ankle in the 1100 block of West Wilson on Saturday evening. He is a known gang member.

Uptown has logged 7 homicides and 23 non-fatal shootings so far this year. One of the homicides was ruled a justifiable killing of a would-be carjacker, according to police.

  1. I live west of uptown and need to drive through it once I'm off LSD to get home, but instead take a longer route to avoid it. At least two bystanders murdered in the cross fire in broad daylight this year. This one could have ended up with a bystander shot at the early, busy hour of 9pm. What are our elected officials doing?? Nothing. Uptown businesses are losing money and property owners are losing value due to this crime uptick.

    1. If the businesses and property owners are losing value, they have been for decades.

They tried to sell me on Uptown in 2005. I was wiser. I believe in diversity, not THAT. May God bless you all. I'm not a religious person but don't know what else will help at this point.

    2. Your elected officials have been very busy working for us with all of their efforts to remove the nasty Donald Trump street sign. He shamefully stated that Chicago is a war zone, how dare he say something so evil about us when there have been fewer than 4,000 people shot to date this year?!

    3. Donald Trump is right. fewer killings in Iraq this year.

    4. They are also removing Gary Johnson signs and keying anyone with libertarian bumper stickers--so that shows you the depth of the problem with democrats and the hard-core constituencies. They are truly a radical left wing authoritarian anti-American communist group. And in Chicago, odds are these people are your wealthy or ultra poor neighbor.

    1. Uptown and Boystown didn't want "da man" around for the past few decades (ya know those big scurry Menz in uniforms). So what changed the tune all of a sudden? Got caught up in their own game?

  3. No cops around when he was shot, but later the dead guy's car got a ticket for blocking the intersection. Ya gotta love Chicago.

    1. That would never happen. The car is a crime scene of a homicide investigation and is towed off by the city.

    2. Tell that to the rent-a-cop meter maid who wrote the ticket.

    3. I can not tell that to the meter maid who wrote the ticket because I have no idea as to who the hell the meter maid was.
