Lakeview: Gunmen Rob 3 Women In Under 90 Minutes Tuesday Morning; 4th Robbery Victim Beaten In Boystown

Four people reported being robbed in Lakeview overnight, including three separate victims who said gunmen robbed them within a 90-minute time span.

No one is in custody for the crimes

Police believe the same offenders are responsible for the three armed robberies, but the fourth case is unrelated.

Two of the cases occurred within Wrigleyville and Boystown, where October has seen an average of one robbery per day.

Three Armed Robberies

• Around 4:05 a.m., a woman told police that several young men tried to rob her at gunpoint near Nelson and Ravenswood. The victim, who was driving at the time, sped from the scene and called for help from a nearby service station.

She described the offenders as three or four black males between 16- and 20-years-old. One of them had a very slim build and wore a red hoodie and carried a handgun, she said.

• A second woman reported a robbery about 45 minutes later in Wrigleyville. That victim told police that four offenders took her phone and her purse at gunpoint while she stood at a bus stop in the 800 block of West Sheridan.

Police tracked pings from her phone to the 900 block of West Belmont, but officers did not find the offenders.

The victim provided descriptions that were similar to those given by the first woman.

• Finally, at 5:20 a.m., a woman was robbed at gunpoint of her purse and phone by three teenagers in the 500 block of West Briar. As in the two earlier robberies, a teen in a red hoodie pulled out a handgun in the company of at least two other teens, the victim said. The muggers were last seen running westbound on Briar toward Broadway.

Fourth Case

The fourth incident is not believed to be related to the other three robberies. A man was beaten and robbed by two offenders in the 3500 block of North Halsted near Hydrate Nightclub around 1:15 a.m.

The victim said that a black man and another black man dressed as a woman beat him up and took $40. An ambulance crew treated the victim for his injuries.

  1. Lol WTF! It's the same 5 block radius every night down the north halsted strip. Stop and frisk. Just have a few officers drive around the area, stop, and frisk! Stricter gun laws, they have an unregistered gun? They're done. It's simple really.

    2. Agreed- or a good old fashioned sting operation - they can use Tunney as the set-up person.

    3. Well seeing as the citizens of this state and country deemed STOP and frisk a violation of rights the Police can no longer do this. Thanks again. Please continue to tell the Police how to do their jobs! Why don't you stop and frisk people? See where it gets you

  5. I have had the stop and frisk conversations with Tom Tunney and other representatives and police and what they eventually tell me is crooks rights supersede law abiding tax paying citizens and they are all chicken shit the criminals will sue them. Time to get new leaders

    1. Sounds tough. How many times have you listed your assets, faced total financial ruin, destroyed family, jail time and public shaming by a criminal while performing your job?

  7. Seems this behavior is completely acceptable to our Chicago "leaders." The police catch the bad guys, but the judges let em go free. IF they actually go to jail, their sentences are a joke and they are back on the street to terrorize us again and again. : (

  8. Not so simple. CPD policies are being guided by every special interest and political group that can get in the fray. Officers are playing fetal so they don't end up shooting a future neurosurgeon. CPD is understaffed anyway pulling officers from the 19th to 007 and 009. Every law regarding unlawful gun possession is already strict. Cook County judges, except for Chiampas, regularly let gun offenders go. Guns are not required to be registered anyway, that was just a ploy for revenue and invasion of privacy. Stop and frisk will get cops fired.

Moral of the story. You are on your own. The cops won't save you. Maintain security and situational awareness. Take no chances. COndition yellow. Train, educate and prepare yourself. It is no coincidence that the crime keeps creeping further and further into the previously untouchable parts of the 19th. Patrols have gone way down. 1922 beat had a 20 min response time the other night to a potential in progress burglary. How much damage do you think can happen in 20 min.

  9. I left Lakeview roughly 6 months ago. Before leaving, I was awaken by a 6 shot salute from a handgun on recreation drive. I heard it loud and clear through my open window.

Kind of reminded me of the Balkans in the 90s.

  10. Yeah, good luck on motivating officers to chase their own lawsuits (e.g. "Stop and frisk," AKA "let's see how many lawsuits I can rack up in the shortest amount of time!")

Anyways, I wonder what the record was...three robberies seems like a lot of work in 90min but I'm sure there's been more in less time.

Illegally carrying when they're a prohibited person sure, but there is no gun registration in Illinois.

  12. Thanks to this website I've been able to identify two men who robbed me, while attacking me and brandishing an object indicating a knife. There was one other person I did not get a look at. The fourth item in this report (one male, one male dressed as a female) matches the two men who robbed me. So, I would not be surprised if this new beating and robbery is the work of the same two men. Another commenter, who mentions awareness and caution, is absolutely correct. Again, thanks to this website, I was able to determine with all the certainty I need in my mind, who it was who attacked and robbed me.

    1. Not to be obvious, but did you file a police report? Then, now? It makes me scared that you see people's mugshots on this blog and say, "Yep, that's the people who assaulted me." and I hope very much that you filed a police report. Really sorry this happened to you!
