A visitor from San Francisco was severely beaten during a robbery in Boystown this morning.

According to a witness, the 20-something victim was walking in the 700 block of W. Brompton when the offender attacked him near the Salvation Army College campus wall around 1:40 AM.

“The poor guy was really beat up, his face was all bloody,” the witness said.

Wanted in the attack is a tall black man between 25 and 27-years-old. He stands 6-feet to 6’2” tall, weighs about 185 pounds, and has close-cropped hair or a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a black jacket while running eastbound on Brompton toward Broadway, the witness said.

The victim stated that the robber had a close-cropped beard.

“I hope the guy is doing okay,” the witness said. “He said he was going back to California today. Not sure if his travel plans will hold.”

An ambulance transported the victim to Thorek Hospital for treatment, police said.

  1. The beating was bad enough but then being taken to Thorek was the icing on the cake.

    1. Agree. Take the beating and go back to your room. It's the safer move.

  6. Wait until the Cubs playoffs...it will be like fish in a barrel for the thugs. Maybe Rahm or Tunney will get mugged. That would be hilarious.

    1. Tunney has been mugged a few years ago while walking from his old ward office to his vehicle in the area of Belmont and either Kenmore or Seminary.

    2. While it would be unfortunate to the victims, a few incidents with national media in town may actually put pressure on leaders to address the problem.

That said, my memory of last October was that there was a pretty high police presence with helicopters, etc that helped keep the criminals away

  7. Warnings should be posted on Trip Advisor. I am so glad that when I was young and felt invincible it was safe to walk around half-naked and buzzed in Boystown any time of the day or night.

    1. I've done my duty by warning others on any public forum available. I see yelp.com is no longer tossing these warning reviews in their "not recommended" pile either.

  9. This was just one block from the CPD station at Addison and Halsted -- the thugs are fearless, knowing how understaffed the CPD is.
