Moving From Kansas City, Man's Targeted By Gunman In Lincoln Park

Welcome to Chicago, chump!

A Kansas City man came thisclose to becoming another shooting statistic as he helped a friend move into a Lincoln Park apartment on Saturday. Fortunately for him, the gunman missed.

It all played out at 5:45 PM Saturday at the three-way intersection of Diversey, Damen, and Clybourn…less than 100 yards from where a 46-year-old man was shot on September 1.

The would-be victim was driving a Budget moving truck when a complete stranger ran up and fired shots at him. Bystanders dove to the ground at a nearby CTA bus shelter and the man from Kansas City took off running.

Witnesses describe the gunman as a “young” black teenage male who has blond-tipped dreadlocks that “point up.” He was last seen running southbound on Damen from Diversey.

The description of Saturday’s shooter closely resembles that of a man who was reportedly involved in a carjacking attempt further north on Damen last Monday.

In that incident, a man reported that two offenders forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint near 4433 N. Damen around 12:30 AM. For unknown reasons, the two offenders fled the scene without taking the car, police said.

The primary offender was described as black, slender, young, 5’8” tall, with blond-tipped dreadlocks.

  1. It wouldn't be a surprise if a connection was found to Lathrop Homes. Aren't most of the units there unoccupied and boarded-up? This place needs to be torn down ASAP. Concentrating poverty into one neighborhood has proven to increase violent crime.

    2. The few gang bangers left are still selling drugs at that intersection or try gong south near the river where most of them still live. It's a scene out of the Wire. They will come up to your car.

  2. Yikes. Speaking of move in day I read a horrible story just last week from Uptown where a 21 year old girl was helping her friend move in to her new apartment. One of the residents pulled her into his apartment and raped her.

  3. Well, 2016 and Beyond, the Department of Interior is convinced that it knows better. It prizes the third-rate Lathrop buildings north of Diversey too "important" to allow them to be torn down. They also like having the space as a segregated ghetto by refusing to have new structures that would incorporate it into the urban street grid. It's unfortunate that bureaucrats who have no day-to-day experience with the site have condemned it to repeat its mistakes of the past. It is a disservice both to its future residents and those who neighbor the site.

    1. The way they carry on you would think Lathrop Homes was Frank Lloyd Wright's first important work or something.

    1. Not only is that tired and worn out to the point that you'd have to be a complete moron to use it in the year 2016, it's also incredibly flippant considering an innocent guy just missed being shot- maybe killed.

    2. Well they need to quit showing only pictures of the Mag Mile in the tourist brochures. And consumers need to quit falling for it too.

  5. Please search "Tracy Cannon" age 18 or 19 years old to see if he's the offender.
