UPTOWN: Drive-by kills woman, injures man Wednesday afternoon

UPDATE: The homicide victim has been identified. She loved going to Lincoln Park Zoo with her grand kids. Story HERE.
Uptown logged its fourth homicide of the year when two people were shot in the 4500 block of N. Sheridan this afternoon.

A 57-year-old woman was shot in the chest and later died at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. A 58-year-old man also suffered at least one gunshot wound to the leg. He is expected to recover.  They are the 22nd and 23rd persons shot in Uptown this year.

The woman listed a home address in the 4500 block of N. Broadway when she was arrested for shoplifting earlier this year, according to court records secured by CWBChicago.  She is not believed to have been the intended target.

Witnesses told police that a newer, black 4-door Toyota sedan rolled up Sheridan around 3:20PM and a man opened fire from the rear right passenger window.

The vehicle was last seen eastbound on Wilson from Sheridan, a witness said.

Four homicides have been recorded in Uptown during 2016. One was determined to be a justified killing of an attempted carjacker by a concealed carry license holder.

  1. Our gangbangers are so tough they even kill the homeless.

  2. they now are killing 58 year old people total BS

    1. The woman may not have been the intended target but the man she was with was intended. The news reported he was a documented gangbanger.

  3. I was jogging close to that area around noon. While running I wasn't unaware I could be a victim of any form of crime. This city is a joke, and so are the residents who seem to embrace violence as a form of multi-cultural orgy.

  4. There must have been an intended target on the corner... CWB if you find out who can you post name and pic so the citizens know another bad guy to report and stay clear of. That target will probably retaliate
