Robbery offender tried to take cop's gun, police say

A 29-year-old man with the word "Renegade" tattooed to his forehead faces felony charges after he tried to take a cop's gun as the officer arrested him near Belmont and Sheffield early Saturday, police said. The incident unfolded almost exactly 24 hours after a double-shooting took place near the same intersection.

Brown (Chicago Police Department)
Lamar Brown is charged with attempted robbery, attempt to disarm a peace officer, resisting arrest, and two counts of aggravated battery.

Patrol officers were flagged down near the 900 block of W. Belmont just after 3AM yesterday by a witness who saw a fight unfolding on a nearby street.

When cops tried to arrest Brown for punching a woman in the face, he fought back and tried to take one of the officer's holstered handguns, police said.

The cops were able to defeat Brown's attempt and place him into custody, but one officer was injured during the struggle, prosecutors said.

Another man approached police after Brown was secured to report that Brown punched him and tried to steal his watch before officers arrived. A woman who tried to stop the robbery attempt was also punched by Brown, the man said.

The injured officer was treated and released at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. None of the other victims sought medical attention.

    1. Well, you DO know that the State's Atty could choose to indict instead of going in front of Luckman, right? Why don't they?

  3. I would be great to know how many times piece of excrement has been arrested. How many times felonies were plead down to misdemeanors. Or charges dropped. How many times he was given a second chance. With all that, imagine how many times he wasn't caught.

WTF!!!! I'm sick of garbage like this terrorizing our neighborhood and our city. I'm sick of people making excuses for assholes like this guy. He even advertises that he is an asshole. I'm sick of the ACLU, DAs and judges worrying about his rights. How about our rights????

  5. Tommie Tunneys wants the recent Belmont-Sheffield stuff kept hush hush, because it will make his restaurant (the sticky bun place) look bad plus this all went down just steps from his office. Of course he chooses to not acknowledge any crime in Ward 44. DO NOT RE-ELECT THIS MORON. Ditto King Rahm. NO!!!!!

A lead pipe, swung with accuracy and appropriate force would do wonders to remove the bad choice that is the forehead tattoo. I don't know if he'd be any more likely to get a good corporate job without it, much less lift a spoon to his mouth, but it would definitely help him out.

  7. Rahm and Tunney have three more years in office. SEND A MESSAGE!!! Vote Republican. That is the ONLY thing they will understand.

  10. We must overcome our prejudice and do our best to welcome this young man into our neighborhood and hopefully through more meaningful dialogue we can all be better people.

    1. Yes. Maybe you can be compassionate enough to hire this fine young man for $100 to lie on the sidewalk in line overnight on the Mag Mile so you can be the FIRST to get the latest Apple gadget. Show us what you're made of and that you truly care. Maybe you can even fall into a gay bar and put a quarter or two in the "Stop Bullying" charity bucket to truly earn your wings.

Have you all had enough of this shit yet or is the residency turnover in Lakeview, Uptown and Edgewater really this high?

    4. I wrote the sarcastic comment. The scary thing is that many Lakeview residents actually feel that way.

  12. Wait... injured and fought back against an officer, punched a woman in the face, tried to disarm and further attack an officer and those are the only charges? That's nothing! Start throwing the book at these dumb shits. I'm not paying out the ass in property tax and sales tax to live in a ghetto gang war. Time for the city to start stepping up or I'm leaving.

    2. Uptown and Detroit have been "turning around" for decades now. I was so busy watching Uptown try to "turn around" since 2005 that I got dizzy and fell down just like the property values.

    3. We used to spend our summers in Lakview at our condo but we sold last year and our spending the summer time in Japan/Thailand. We aren't missing Chicago at all! We did have friends visit from Lakeview who brought us all new Cubs caps. That's cool.

    Thanks guys.
    Stooges + Rahm = Detroit-ization.

  15. Look at that defiant attitude on his mug shot. It's saying, "Fuck you, I'll be back out on the streets in a week, because Judge Luckman is my friend, and I was JUST beginning to turn my life around."
