UPTOWN: 2 Shootings Since 9PM As Gang Fight Heats Up

Two men have been shot in Uptown since 9 o’clock last night as reports of gunfire have surged in that neighborhood over the past week.

Police sources speculated that the increased shooting could be connected to the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of North Side rapper Young Pappy in Uptown on May 29.

• A 28-year-old man was shot in the right eye around 9:30PM Tuesday near Leland and Racine. The victim was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment.

• Then, another man was shot in the arm as he walked in the 1300 block of W. Leland around 1:20 this morning. He was transported to Illinois Masonic by acquaintances, police said.

• On Friday, an employee of an Uptown nursing home was shot in the leg as he smoked a cigarette in the 4600 block of N. Racine. Surveillance video showed a newer model Chevy Malibu with rear tinted windows pull up and an occupant opening fire on the victim around 2:20PM. No one else was injured.

  1. Tough gang bangers shooting nursing home aides on a smoke break. Pathetic.

  3. Aw shucks! And I'm leaving for the summer tomorrow, leaving all the inner city fun behind! I only hope I don't get shot while getting into my car tomorrow since I plan on leaving in the dark hours of the morning, or while driving down the expressway. Wish me luck!

  5. Was CWB there? Anyone who was -- were the police forthcoming with any new info as to police staffing? They've GOT to change the status quo. We need more police!

    1. CPD has gotten past the "perception" bullshit, gone back to 2013 staffing levels, but that is about it. The Addison lockup is still shut, tactical teams are gone.

They all (CPD + Rahm + Council + Stooges in various community and commerce groups) totally lost control in the years of denial since 2011, spread to day time, Lincoln Park, gangs have discovered the place, and CPD are at completely at wits end as to what to do about it.
