Men Questioned, Gun Recovered After Double-Shooting In Uptown

Two men were shot during a gang-related incident in Uptown overnight. Both victims were reported in good condition at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The victims, both shot once in one leg, told police that they were near the corner of Leland and Racine around 3AM Friday when shots rang out. Both sought help at a nearby 7-Eleven store.

Police who searched the area saw four men running through yards and alleys near the Aragon Ballroom. Three were eventually taken into custody and one gun was recovered near the Hickory Playlot, 4832 N. Winthrop. The fourth man, a 22-year-old member of a Gangster Disciples street gang faction, escaped.

Investigators were working this morning to see if the men and the weapon were involved in the shooting.

Today’s victims are 18th and 19th persons to be shot in Uptown this year. By comparison, Uptown’s 19th shooting last year came on July 31.

Despite the increase in shootings, fewer people have been killed by gunfire in Uptown this year. The neighborhood has recorded three homicides this year, one of which was ruled self-defense. There were eight homicides at this point last year.

  1. I wonder if the "victims" will "snitch"? I wish these gang bangers were better shots.

    1. A bullet through an 80 year old's 35th floor apartment no less sending him to the hospital because he was stunned. He's probably part of Chicago history and escaped the neighborhood his people built because of the violence. Probably thought he finally "arrived" on the north side with a view of the lake. Totally tragic. At least in Detroit they hit their intended target and know what they're doing with those damn things.

  2. For most of us the number of bullets in the air counts more than the number of funerals.

But its ok...Cappleman wants you to know for the umpteenth time to call 911 early and often. Call call call...it gives him "tools" he says.

The dweebish Alderman has other things to do like harass mentally ill women on the street and call my landlord for "snitching" about it.

Well ya know Alderman....f*#k you bring it on. Think that is going fly?

  5. When in God's name and all that's vital is the CPD going to get fiercely, undeniably aggressive about GANGS?? And gang crime should be getting tougher sentencing right off the bat. What's the deterrent to these thug mobs? Beyond sickening and unacceptable.

    1. It's almost as if the city considers gangs a "protected class." I have no idea why they are coddled and given such light sentences.

Gangs are ORGANIZED CRIME and should be treated as such. They are a menace to everyone in the city. They are urban terrorists.

    2. Good point. Maybe the gangs are huge contributors to Preckwinkle.

    3. Under Rambo's control, the CPD will do nothing. Put them under State control, and there could be some hope.
