Burglars Snatch Cash Register From Boystown Nightclub

A popular Boystown nightclub this morning became the latest Lakeview business to lose a cash register to burglars.

Police were called to Hydrate, 3458 N. Halsted, just before 5 o’clock this morning after a manager realized that a cash drawer was missing.

The register was later found lying on the street in the 800 block of W. Newport.

Not coincidentally, police were called to the corner of Halsted and Newport about an hour before the burglary was discovered after a passer-by reported seeing two men trying to bust open a cash box on Halsted Street. Officers did not see anything suspicious.

The cash box busters were described as two black men—one in a baseball cap and black tee shirt, the other in a white tee shirt.

Scooped

Yet another local business also lost their cash register during an overnight burglary recently.

Thieves broke through the front door of Bobtail Ice Cream, 2951 N. Broadway, around 3 o’clock last Friday morning and fled out the side door with the register.

Notably, the ice cream shop sits almost directly under a Chicago Police Department pod camera.

  2. This may be a good thing for residents of the lake View area. Tunney does not listen to residents but he does listen to business and bars. If the thieves get tired of home invasions/ burglary, car theft and start on business registers and kicking out the door windows of businesses and they complain to Tunney maybe he will bring back the police department so Businesses unite and complain like hell to Tunney to bring our police department back to the Addison station and have them patrol the neighborhood not be assigned west of Lakeview

    3. These business burglaries have been happening for many months now -- Unfortunately, if that were going to convince Tunney it would have already.

    1. Do any business's actually leave cash in the register overnight? Maybe post a sign on the door that states this is a cash free zone?

  4. Pretty soon, businesses will put those "lovely" cages over their windows like they do on the south side. Couldn't blame them if they do.

  5. How the heck are they supposed to protect Pride when they can't protect the neighborhood on a regular day?

  7. I shared this particular article with the kids because we have fond memories of Bobtail from our summers living in Lakeview.

  8. This is what happens when Rahm closes the Patrol operation out of original 019 District A.K.A. Belmont and Western and then a back door layoff through attrition i.e. retirements, promotions, and transfer out without the manpower being replenished!

Rahm does NOT care because he has 24/7 police coverage with a minimum of four Officers per shift!

    Just saying!
