Teens Charged With Sunday Night Armed Robbery — Muggings Up 144% This Year

UPDATE: Since our story was posted, CPD has confirmed the robbery of a cab driver last week. We have added those details here. The robbery rate increase is now 144%.
A 48-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in the 500 block of W. Addison Sunday evening. Two juveniles are in custody.

Police were called to the intersection of Pine Grove and Addison at 11:40PM after the victim surrendered his phone and cash to a 17-year-old male who brandished what police later determined to be a replica firearm.

The boy and a 14-year-old girl fled northbound and were taken into custody by officers at Pine Grove and Waveland minutes later. Both were positively identified and the victim’s property was recovered, police said.

Police today announced that both offenders have been charged with one count of armed robbery. The suspects names were not released because they are juveniles.

Attempted Robbery of Cabbie Confirmed

Chicago police have confirmed details of yet another robbery in the neighborhood.

A cab driver called police from Addison and Lake Shore Drive after he was attacked by passengers around 3:55PM on April 3. Investigating officers originally believed that the case was a failed carjacking by three men who were riding in the cab. A language barrier hampered the initial investigation, police said.

The three offenders—all of whom were captured on video—failed to gain control of the cab and fled the scene.

They were described as:
1) Male, Hispanic, 35, 5’9” tall, 155 pounds
2) Male, black, 30, 6’2” tall, 200 pounds
3) Male, black, shorter than the other two. Unknown weight.
All three men carried backpacks.

Neighborhood Robbery Rate Continues To Soar

As of Monday morning, 44 robberies have been reported in Wrigleyville and Boystown this year—1 144% increase.

By comparison, only 18 robberies had been reported at this point last year and 23 had been reported at this time in 2014.

The surge in reports has the neighborhood on-pace to record a record high number of robbery reports in 2016.

  1. There is something wrong with a system which protects individuals who commit premeditated crimes. I'm sure we will be seeing their names and mug shots on this site in the future seasons of Life in Lakeview.

  2. And not a WORD on these events from our esteemed alderpuss. Mind boggling. But he sure got that weekly newsletter out with his photo-op of him shoveling shit in the street a couple of weeks back. If CWB did not exist, I doubt even 5% of people in this 'hood would know of the living hell that is taking place for some people.

  3. Probation nation!

  4. Replica gun is a gun. I don't know the difference so the penalty should not be different. I don't care your age you should identified if you commit a crime.

  5. 3-4 cars broken into in my neighborhood off diversey and wolcott as well. Also had an attempted mid-day car theft a couple weeks ago.

  7. And this is why 3,000 millionairs left Chicago last year.
