Gangbanger Brandished Replica Firearm During Boystown Street Fight, Witnesses And Cops Say

A 20-year-old Englewood man is in custody after witnesses said he brandished a gun while a group of men fought on Boystown's Halsted Street bar strip early Friday morning.

Arriving officers were flagged down by two witnesses who said they saw the man walking westbound on Aldine from Halsted Street.

Officers who caught up with the suspect found a Sig Sauer blue steel air pistol in the man's coat pocket, according to the police report.

David Shabazz, charged with possession of a pellet gun, is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Shabazz is a self-admitted member of the Traveling Vice Lord street gang, police said.

  1. Did the Traveling Vice Lord get mad because he travelled from the hood for some down low fun and his ugly face and dreds didn't get it?

  2. Look at that defiant entitled jutted-out jaw in that mugshot. Take a close look, fellow ward 44 residents and business owners. This is our coming spring and summer, so far on track to be the worst and possibly bloodiest ever. And our mayor and alderman sit on their highly-salaried rumps doing NOTHING about it.

  3. He seems to have a spinal condition in his neck. He should have that looked at.

  4. WOW ! All the way from Englewood to Lake View for a little fun ? ? ? Oh, maybe this is the kick. The Mayor has instructed the police department to saturate the Englewood neighborhood with police to keep the crime rate down. What about Lake View where they all end up because we have less police officers to respond to crime than the south and west side. How much tax increase did you get or expect to get this year? Tunny said he was promised more police if he voted for the increase. Have we seen any yet ? Will we see any in the future? I doubt it. Any comments?

    1. These crimes which seem to occur in the wee morning hours are going to require a citizens patrol. Maybe we can call on the guardian angels?

    2. The Guardian Angels once tried to help and wanted to be headquartered in the Center on Halsted. The CoH denied them and they backed off. The CoH has always chose criminals over law enforcement.

  5. "David Shabazz, charged with..."

Would be nice if you could say, "Shabazz!" - and they would all magically disappear.

  6. Homie, when you get caught with a replica handgun you surrender your street cred. Stop trying to act tough in your mugshot.

    1. I've been to scenes where we recovered a mix of replicas (bb guns) along with real guns. I've been to shootings where people have been shot and replicas were in the mix. Needless to say, for me, I don't want to find out if the gun I'm seeing releases a bright flash, loud percussion and results in pink mist from the back of my head. I'd suggest you also refrain from questioning their "street cred" from an instance of them having a replica because the next time it may not be a replica. I don't know why they use replicas sometimes, they just do.
