Man, Woman Targeted In Separate Lakeview Armed Robberies Wednesday

Two people were targeted in separate armed robberies in nearby Lakeview Wednesday evening. No one was injured and no suspects were detained.

Most recently, a Lakeview woman was robbed of her purse by a man who brandished a knife near the Whole Foods store at Lincoln and School around 10PM. The victim told police that the offender accosted her her near the intersection of Marshfield and Lincoln, then fled northbound on Marshfield.

She described the offender as a "fat" black man between 5'7" and 5'9" tall who wore a gray jacket with a scarf covering his face.

Earlier, a man told police that two men wearing face masks jumped out of hiding in the 1000 block of W. Wellington and tried to rob him while armed with what appeared to be a handgun around 5:20PM.

The victim told police that both offenders were black men—one wearing a blue ski mask with a black jacket and the other described only as wearing a ski mask.

    1. Thank you for catching that. 10PM. It's been added to the story.

  3. The 1000 block of W. Wellington is a major commuter route from the Brown line train, especially at 5:20PM. I find it hard to believe that two men were able to ambush somebody without many other people being around. Did this happen on Wellington? Were there witnesses?

    1. How do you feel about all of these people who supposedly rob banks in broad daylight knowing that they are on camera? Are those just rumors? It certainly doesn't make sense that anyone would do it.

  5. I was accosted tonight on the red line downtown Monroe Street Station, 6:00 p.m. prime rush. Group of youths were fighting at bottom of steps leading into station, they turned their rage on me when I squeezed past them for the turnstiles. One jumped me, I swatted him with my computer bag (luckily my laptop is okay), and scurried onto the crowded platform. Two of the boys came down looking for me. A CTA worker was close behind, ordered them off the platform because they had jumped the turnstile. CTA agent had no interest in me, for which I was glad. I get to do it all over again tomorrow. Fun times in the big city.

    1. That sucks. I'd use another word, not "youths," to describe them. Damn Scandinavians are so violent.
