BUSY NIGHT: Pizza Driver Robbed At Gunpoint; 2 Others Report Robbery Attempts, Too

A Chicago's Pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in Lakeview this morning during a hold-up that bears similarities to a Christmas Eve armed robbery spree that claimed four victims here.

The driver, who works out of the pizzeria at 3114 N. Lincoln, told police that two skinny black men in their late teens or early's 20's got out of a black SUV and produced a handgun in the robbery which played out in the 1500 block of W. Barry around 3:40AM.

Both offenders returned to the SUV and were last seen driving northbound on Hoyne Avenue, the victim said.

Amateur Hour

Two victims—one in Lakeview and another in nearby Lincoln Park—reported being targeted by young robbery offenders who seem new to the job overnight.

In the first case, a man told police that two offenders tried to rob him near Southport and Wellington around 11:50PM yesterday. The victim flashed his firefighter badge and the duo fled in a white Prius. It is not clear if the victim proceeded to file a police report.

About 90 minutes later, a doorman called police for a man who reported that two offenders implied that they had a weapon during an attempted robbery in the 2500 block of N. Lakeview Avenue. The offenders fled in a white car, later confirmed to be a Prius, that "looks like a taxi." The vehicle was last seen turning southbound onto Lake Shore Drive.

The first victim described the offenders as two black males between 17- and 20-years-old.

The second victim described them as two black males between 20- and 25-years-old, one of whom wore a green and gray beanie hat. He added that the robbers "seemed amateurish and young."

  1. This reads like young men robbing for fun and not necessarily for profit, (prius really!).
Just for the info only, firefighters are forbidden by the rules to carry their badge off duty. The badge stays on their dress uniforms.

    1. Mmm-hmm. They aren't going to stop when they get a taste of profit.

  2. All they need to do is spend a few days at the Center on Halted. One of the fine gentlemen there will take these noobies under their wings and apprentice them in life lessons of mayhem.
