IN-N-OUT BURGLARS: With 20+ Recent Burglaries, Prowler Stories Get Creepy

A woman who called police after seeing an unknown person's hands sticking through her roommate’s bedroom window last night became the latest local resident to report strange activities as a month-long streak of burglaries claims more victims here.

The creepy, curious hands were not able to grab anything during the incident, which was reported at 9 o’clock Thursday night in the 3300 block of Lakewood.

But, a man who lives in the 600 block of W. Surf was not so lucky earlier in the day.

That victim found an unknown person in his apartment at 3:10AM and chased the offender out the back door. A computer was stolen in the forced-entry burglary, police said.

Other notables in the burglary bonanza:

• A newly-opened eyeglass and contact store in the 3100 block of N. Broadway had its front door kicked in by a smash-and-grab burglar early Monday. Video shows an apparently professional burglar at work as he donned gloves and a hoodie and spent less than 30 seconds on-scene.

• A .40-caliber Glock handgun and 100 rounds of ammunition were among the items taken during a forced-entry burglary in the 800 block of W. Roscoe on October 13.

• A complex of medical offices in the 2800 block of N. Sheffield has been the scene of several burglaries this month. Workers returning to their offices on Monday found three offices on three separate floors burglarized there. Another office was broken into in the same building on October 17. And yet another was burglarized on October 2.

• A resident of the 700 block of Buckingham told police that an unknown man walked into her apartment at 3:45PM on October 21 and then fled when she confronted him.

• A burglar targeted an occupied home in the 1200 block of W Grace while residents slept on October 22.

Other recently-reported burglaries in our area:
• 3300 block of N. Clifton, October 3
• 800  block of W. Aldine, October 3
• 600  block of W. Waveland, October 9

  1. Sorry people, but if nothing more unpleasant happens to these parasites other than being "chased out the back door", it will never stop. By merely shooing them away like some wayward raccoon you have surrendered the last part of your selves, your homes, to them.

  2. Is that a picture of Ted patiently waiting outside of Looney Tunney's office for a response to his letters?!

    1. No. That's Looney giving all of us his answer to Ted.

    2. Ted, when you deliver your next letter, give us a heads up (as well as the media) and we'll walk to his office with you. Heck, we'll co-sign your letter

Lets make this happen. I really don't want to sell my condo and move away. I'd prefer to take this neighborhood back from the thugs. Who's with me? (and Ted?)

  3. Glock 40 ? You need one with these criminals on the loose up here. Please don't leave it laying around for burglars to take. If your locks and doors are that flimsy, windows don't lock right then don't bother getting a gun.

    1. If your gun is that easy to find you are an irresponsible gun owner. Plain and simple.

    2. We dont know how long the theif was in the house. It may well have been locked up. Many crooks who can break down a door can break in to a safe.

  5. I don't see any burglaries in or near Tunneys building on Diversey, Maybe the music from the boats or the police being sent to quiet them down keeps the bad guys away.

  6. Doors and windows were locked. It was a past tennent that come to find out, still had keys.

    1. Most of those landlords never change the locks nor even collect the keys.

  7. I believe the medical offices are located on the 2900 Block of Sheffield? Or, is there some other error?

    1. Beliefs are interesting, aren't they?

In response to your latter question, no.

  8. I live on the 600 block of west surf and think that I may have overheard part of the unlawful entry happen. I called the police. If this happened in my building, I want to contact the landlord regarding security. They can be pretty lax. Do you know for sure that it was a previous tenant? Do you know if the landlord was contacted and if security measures were taken?
