"COMPLETELY UNPROVOKED": Man Attacked With Brick

A 54-year-old man was struck twice in the back of the head with a brick in what police say was a "completely unprovoked" attack at a busy intersection Monday afternoon.

Multiple 911 calls were made after the man was battered near the intersection of Roscoe and Inner Lake Shore Drive at 3:45PM.

Officers believe the offender may have psychiatric issues.

The suspect is described as a blonde-haired white man with a beard. He was wearing khaki pants and was shirtless when last seen walking westbound on Roscoe.

The victim was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment.

  1. I've noticed a mentally-disturbed or high-on-drugs guy around this area who sounds like he could be the suspect. He's in his 20's, thick head of hair light brown, medium build. He screams, cusses, has shouting matches with with mostly imaginary people. One time I noticed him screaming at a man and women that were walking in front of him. I was worried he was going to do something to them but he eventually backed off.
If I see him again, I will be calling 911 to report him as a suspect.

    1. They're just "harmless, homeless people".

    2. Is it the guy who is dressed in a blue shirt and blue shorts? He is always walking around and yelling things.

    3. I see that guy shuffling around all the time -- He always seems to be in the same outfit though, so this might not be him.

  2. Did the brick give the COH as it's address?

  3. I saw a guy fitting that suspect's description walking on Broadway last Saturday night between Roscoe and Belmont. He was shouting and acting very agitated. I stayed on the other side of the street from him but, if I see him again, I'll definitely report him immediately.

  5. There's another short, older white guy who appears to be homeless and frequently seems to strip down/change clothes while standing on the sidewalk in the area. I've seen him several times on LSD near the intersections at Roscoe and Hawthorne.

  6. I've seen/heard a man matching that description on Broadway & Barry. He follows people, yells racial slurs, calls women b*tches, and says he's going to kill everyone. I crossed the street when he got behind me.

  7. If it's the guy we all think it is, I just saw him sleeping in the doorway of the now-closed Specialty Video. I called the 19th District station and was told to call 911. Done. Here's hoping something productive comes of it and I'm not just being some Mrs. Kravitz beeyotch. Best wishes to the guy who was the hit in the head!

    1. I'm pretty sure I saw this guy sleeping in the doorway of a condo building on the SE corner of Brompton & Pine Grove Sunday (or Monday) morning. I think he was wearing blue as mentioned in another post above, and had really old, torn up gym shoes on his feet.

  8. If it's the guy someone else described above wearing a blue shirt and blue shorts, with messy/dirty blonde hair, I've seen that guy the last two mornings (today and yesterday) around 7:30a walking north on halsted at Aldine. However, he was quiet both times. If that's the guy and the cops are still looking for him, I'll call the police if I see him again.

  9. He's on Cornelia right now screaming at people - he just yelled at one of my neighbors "you're gonna die, white bitch" - I called 911 to report him harassing people, so we'll see.

  10. If so many people have seen this guy recently in the same area (with some people even calling it in), why haven't cops picked him up? Surely they have seen him too. No wonder criminals feel so empowered to prey on people in our neighborhood. They know they can "hide" in plain sight and get away with it. This is ridiculous!

  11. He shoplifts almost everyday at the Jewel and takes naps on my neighbors lawn. Just saw him last night on Brompton before I read this. Will certainly be calling when I see him next.
