SUNDAY GUNDAY: 3 Women Robbed At Gunpoint In Brazen Afternoon Muggings

Three Lake View women were robbed at gunpoint Sunday afternoon in two separate but apparently related muggings. No one was injured and no arrests have been made.

The first armed robbery took place near Grace and Wayne around 1:10PM. Police say two women were walking northbound on Wayne when an offender jumped from a passing vehicle, produced a handgun, and robbed them. The gunman, described as a black woman who may have been wearing a Chicago Bears beanie hat, fled northbound in a white car. The victims did not see anyone else in the get-away car. (Case number HX557588.)

Fifteen minutes later, a man followed a woman into her apartment building at Addison and Bosworth, produced a handgun, and robbed her. This victim described her attacker as a "fat" black man with dreadlocks, about 5'10" tall, wearing a black jacket and black pants. He fled in an older-model white car—possibly a Pontiac Sunfire—with a rear spoiler.

Officers recovered a clip from a .177 caliber pellet or BB gun at the Bosworth location. (Case number HX557610)

None of the victims was carrying cash.

Saturday Mugging

Also this weekend, a Wrigleyville man was mugged in the 1100 block of Roscoe early Saturday by two offenders who implied that they had a gun.

According to the victim, the offenders were two black men. One is about 18-years-old, 5'7" tall, 140 pounds, wearing a gray sweatshirt. No description is available for the second mugger. Both men were last seen running northbound in the west alley of Seminary around 3:40AM. (CPD case HX556214)

    1. You mean the hate crimes where the victims were robbed of valuables? Sure doesn't sound like a hate crime to me.

    2. In most circumstances, including mine, the muggings come with a nice helping of punches and beatings. And they are concentrated in the boystown area. Either we have allowed them to think gays are pussies and won't fight back, or they find it easy to beat gay men because of an innate hatred of homosexuals. I'm inclined to think that it's a little bit of both with a lack of morals, respect, and parenting. That said, hate crime should completely apply in assault situations, it's pretty clear to most of us. Yet it's never made an issue when it's towards the gays, at least in this city. Quite appalling what has happened to our neighborhood, and it's being allowed.

    3. If these are "hate" crimes, all robberies are hate crimes, which defeats the whole purpose of defining anything as a hate crime.

    4. The term "hate crime" is more pc bullshit. I'm not aware of any crime that is done out of love.

    5. When a crime against a black person involves imagery like a noose, for example, or a crime against a Jewish person involves painting Swastikas, tossing on a hate crime conviction is warranted. It is far from "PC bullshit." Hate crime is clearly defined in the law. I am guessing that you have not read the definition.

    6. When I received my mugging, it included a violent physical assault, 2 on 1, and the words "f---ing faggot" we're thrown at me when I tried to resist. They got away with my wallet, iPhone, and keys. I was left bleeding on the concrete with broken teeth, pavement burn on the face, and two black eyes. It happened on briar street in east lakeview. I missed a week of work because of my appearance. So tell me, should I accept being called a faggot while being hatefully and brutally beaten without provocation? I will take it upon myself to consider this a hate crime, whether you (and the mainstream media/Rahm) do or not.

    7. That definitely should have been noted as a hate crime, but unless they caught the $hitheads who mugged you, and they were formally charged, it wouldn't be listed as such in the police report. Charges like that are typically up to the State's Atty.

  2. Instead of Rahm spending dough on Red Light cams, he should put cams on VERY corner of the side streets in the high crime areas.....Wrigleyville didn't USED to be one, but apparently it's come to this

  4. It's a magazine...not a clip.

    1. We are aware of the difference.

In this instance, the officer specifically stated that the item recovered is a clip. The fact that the recovered item is for a .177 caliber pellet or BB gun furthers the likelihood that the item found is a clip as pellets and BBs are frequently sold as clips.

    2. Don't you love the know-it-all's? Anonymous obviously doesn't know the difference between a clip a magazine and his a$$.

  6. No police on certain beats Friday night? Some beats one man cars?
Where the hell are all the Police at? Are the same ones still taking Every weekend off?
Why are they the police if they can't work what they are needed to work. Police work is 24/7 Not half of you taking off to go have fun you chose this job you knew the hours and days, quit if you can't do it anymore and let some new police come on the force...

    2. There's this thing we have called a contract. We bid for our vacations sometimes a year in advance. We also get sick, get injured on the job and have family emergencies. Do any of us want to work 10-99 (alone)? Hell no. But your comments are uncalled for. Don't blame us that there aren't enough police in Chicago -- rightly place your blame with Shortshanks and Tiny Dancer.

    3. I agree if some of you can't work weekends when you took this job knowing that you would have to and keep taking off every weekend, then maybe this job isn't for you. Go find a mon-fri 9-5 job and let others who want the job have it

  7. Every other day while walking my dog some group of "urban youth" or other call me a white bitch. Is that a hate crime? BTW, my dog is a pit bull which shows you how little fear these kids have today.

  8. I deliver *food for an establishment in the *neighborhood. Have recently sent in my application for a FOID card, soon to be followed by my CCW courses. Sad. I work for a great place, in a great neighborhood. I hate that things have come to this, but no shithead (regardless of age/race/creed /sexual preference/whatever) is taking a dime from me or my employer. Time to at least attempt to fight back, folks. Stop walking around like you're back in your hometown of farmland, USA and act like youre from the city. Things like this happen. Defend yourself.
