COPS: Gun Threat In Familiar-Sounding Monday Robbery

A man was robbed near Sheffield and Barry by an offender who claimed to have a gun around 10:15 Monday night.

The victim handed his blue and tan Aldo book bag to the robber, who was last seen running northbound on Sheffield toward the Belmont Red Line station.

According to the victim, his attacker was a short black man who wore a black bandana and a gray hoodie. (Case #HX543837)

Alert Issued

CWB readers may remember our story from last Friday in which we said some beat cops believed that two robberies the evening before were carried out by the same gunman. Area North detectives confirmed those suspicious by issuing a formal alert over the weekend.

Monday's robbery took place about a block away from one of the crimes detailed in the police alert.

  1. Way to ALWAYS be the first to issue alerts to your neighbors about crime and mayhem. The CPD honchos should take notes on how it's done! Thank you, CWB!!! What would we do without you?

  2. According to the victim he went to urinate in the alley, near his home mind you, before being robbed. Sounds like there is more to this story...

    1. Looks like he got what he deserved. This isn't China - no need to piss on the streets.

    2. ....as I've mentioned before, they meed to quit inviting their dealers into their neighborhood and go to them. Even a dog doesn't piss where he sleeps.

  4. The street light on the south side of Barry Ave between Sheffield and Kenmore has been out twice in 2 weeks. The first time is took 2 days to fix after I reported it with the Chicago Works app. Lets hope they find the right fix for it this time or maybe it was intentional being close to the robbery scene.

    1. The street lights on Kenmore between Barry and Wellington have also been out a lot lately. What are we paying taxes for if city employees can't do their jobs and do them right?

    1. and how exactly does Garcia intend to pay for another 1,000 police? Should we expect to see our property taxes increase by another 20%?

  6. Looks like we should have enough police tonight for a change. As long as they all stay up on their beats. If they could keep 1914R from always scamming every night and going down on the traffic cars DUI's for some reason when they are not even needed, I found out 1995R is a breath tech so they don't need to down a beat car for 3 or 4 hours every night. Im new to this district but where I came from this would never be allowed where the other beats have to cover all their jobs because their scamming. Maybe they should be on the Entertainment team a fixed post???

    1. Hey 'Insider'.
Thank you very much for the information. VERY much.
It seems pretty clear that 'supervision' in the 19th is, well let's just call it sub-standard.
So maybe if we -- the people who actually pay the bills here and actually want to help make things better -- if we get a better look inside, then maybe things get better.
Maybe you get what you want - better co-workers and better support / back-up.
And maybe we get what we want - safer streets and better conditions for all of us, including you.
      Thank you again.
Please keep up your posts. Let us know where the potholes are, inside the line.
