SAVING FOR A RAINY DAY: Lunch Hour Robbery At Clark/Diversey Bank

Image: FBI
Who wears a poncho on a brilliantly sunny day? A bank robber.

A Lake View bank was robbed of over $1,000 this afternoon by a man who implied he had a weapon, according to police and a witness.

Officers were tipped off around 12:15PM by multiple alarm triggers at the Fifth Third bank, located at 640 W. Diversey between Jamba Juice and the Days Inn entrance.

The FBI is describing the offender as a white man in his late 40's to 50's with gray hair. He's about 6-feet tall and was last seen wearing an orange rain poncho and sunglasses as he headed northbound on Clark Street.

CPD case HX374924.

  2. Crazy == and there must be prints. These people, robbing, committing crimes in the middle of the day, and in such an active location = I just don't get it.

    2. Ah yes! The CSI watchers are all here! Yes he left prints! But what if he has never been arrested? What good are those prints going to be if he's not in any database??? Furthermore, it's a bank, how many sets of prints do you think are on that exact spot? It probably gets touched a hundred times a day... Trace back surveillance tape is the best route...

    1. Yep, only Notre Dame grads wear shirts that say "Irish" anywhere on them

  6. Maybe I'm just slow, but I don't understand why you'd rob a bank. Sure, they have money, but you won't get more than a handful and most likely it'll be traced. Plus the FBI gets involved, and unlike Cook County, they tend to be aggressive about putting people in jail.

High risk, low reward. Doesn't he know the real money is in robbing from the taxpayers like our politicians?

    1. On average some 5,000+ bank robbery's are committed each year and the majority go unsolved ... To them its easy money for 5 mins of work.

    2. Did the bank have those exploding packs of dye to put in with the loot?

      If not, why not?

    3. I have more respect for a bank robber than for some moron who steals quarters from laundry rooms.
