Image: FBI
19th district police handled their third bank robbery in two weeks this afternoon after a man walked up to a teller at the Chase bank near Clark and Barry and implied he had a gun.

He walked out of the bank onto Halsted Street around 2:34PM without getting any money.

Officers recovered the suspect's baseball hat and t-shirt behind a nearby Illinois Masonic Medical Center parking garage. Witnesses report seeing him walking westbound on Wellington toward Sheffield with his t-shirt removed.

The FBI describes today’s would-be robber as male, white, 6’1” tall, heavy set, mid-40’s, salt and pepper hair in a pony tail, wearing a blue or purple baseball cap and gray t-shirt. Witnesses report that he may have had a tank top under the t-shirt and he wore gray shorts with a stripe on the side.

  1. I have seen this bank robber guy and believe I may know his first name at the very least. Is there any reward offered yet to catch this guy??

    1. According to the FBI, yes. http://bandittrackerchicago.com/2014/08/chase-bank-3032-n-clark-st-chicago-il/

  2. Aha. So this is why the Chase branch was closed when I walked past at 4:55 yesterday afternoon. I feared that it may have been because of a robbery attempt.

  3. How did that fat old homeless guy get away? He was on foot.
Where was the homeless car at and maybe they know him, maybe they gave him a ride to a shelter before.

  4. I believe I've seen this guy on Mondays at Temple Shalom, where they serve dinner to homeless people. Could swear I saw him there just this past Monday. Not sure that helps, but feel free to pass along if you think it will.
