VIDEOS: Montrose Mayhem

Here are a few videos of the Montrose Beach area going up for grabs Sunday night. Many thanks to the CWB reader who sent these our way.

  1. And the lies continue to fly out of McCarthy's mouth, as he claims there were plenty of police available: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-montrose-beach-police-fight-20140713,0,3748178.story

    1. Sorry about that, Anonymous. We are making changes so the videos will be mobile-friendly. Should be good to go by 2:45PM.

    2. Great! Thanks so much! I know another site, Second City Cop, posted a video of this melee, but unfortunately it was removed. I'm anxious to see the mayhem that occurred last night since the news barely made mention of it. It's so sad to see the city going in the direction it's going in.

    3. Alderman Cappleman is quoted in the Trib as saying parking accessibility contributed to this and park district/police should reduce parking there. Is he serious? Restrict access to Chicagos greatest free resource (lake front parks) instead of acknowledging police man power so depleted that they simply react to crime vs. an ability to patrol/monitor/prevent

    4. It's up and running now! Thanks so much for posting. Horrible footage of people going mad. What is going on with this city?! AND Rahm has a lot of nerve to say crime is going down. I'm very suspicious that it was more than just weather that caused the Taste of Chicago to be cancelled this past Saturday. Rahm probably didn't want to take a chance of having a repeat of last week's bloody weekend. The city has really become a ghetto. It's sad to say that, as I come from a long generation of native Chicagoans. My grandparents lived in Roseland for a very long time until they couldn't any longer. Unfortunately, it looks like the north side is heading in that direction.

    5. Tamborazo Parrandero "music" festival. The promoters for this unsanctioned event should be fined and possibly thrown in jail. They are on Facebook

    6. The closure of the taste on Saturday was legitimate since a vendor nearly got electrocuted when getting her booth ready. Because the city could not get rid of the standing water they were forced to close. However per those in the know monitoring social media indicated a plan for wilding that evening so there was always a good probability that it would have been shut down early anyway.

  6. Does anyone know why there was such a big crowd...who were they, and was there some sort of event of function going on?

  7. So 10% of my 2013 proper taxes just went to replacing glass on a cop car. Greeeeat.

  9. How convenient that so many videos were pulled from YouTube. Keep up the good work. I know when I inevitably post a crime infested video some day I will post it all over the place.

  10. If there were more bike cops then they may have got an earlier heads up. There are only so many to go around. Thanks to the internet we have pop-up beach concerts and crime blogs.

  11. Bunch of animals! Too bad the police's hands are tied so hard that they can't do anything except drive away until more arrive. And what's worst of all of this is that while they're dealing with these animals, most of whom deserve whatever they get, law abiding, tax paying citizens are getting the shaft with no cops to cover our area because they're all at the park.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think Rahm is having them removed from Youtube. Is that possible? Maybe a call to the people in the White House? Maybe I am just thinking crazy. Snowden?

    1. More likely the people who posted them are afraid of backlash from peers, the offenders or the police. Or all of the above.

  13. Well, Bernie's just not that concerned with all out rioting and mayhem or police getting attacked or property getting damaged == we're just not listening to him. In fact, mere questioning of the Montrose Beach incident just torques him off, 'cause it veers from his agenda; and after all, it didn't involve guns and it's not Michigan Ave or a school zone down south. Just keep letting the animals rule ... LUNACY!

I don't even get the mentality/sanity of anyone attacking a cop .. what the hell's going on?

  15. FYI - ABC7 just announced there'll be coverage (video) on tonight's 10PM news broadcast of the Montrose Beach bedlam. Way to go at last, local media! (I have a feeling one of the readers here turned their videos over .. -- WELL DONE!) And thanks a million for your typical excellence, CWB!

  16. The group that organized it should be seriously fined to cover the costs of the clean up, damage to property & extra police man power.

  17. Seriously fine the group that organized it.
Fines for clean up, damage to property & extra police power.
Fine the hell out of them.

  21. Should the organizers of the Pride Parade be fined as well ?

Or do you only "Fine the hell" out the lower socioeconomic groups that celebrate their culture.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. (1) The Pride Parade has a permit
      (2) Yes, the Pride Parade should reimburse the city for the taxpayers' expenses
      (3) If you believe these people were "celebrating their culture," you just out-racist-ed yourself.

      Delete
    2. Who celebrates their culture attacking police cars and destroying a public park? As for the parade, frankly crowd looks about the same. I'm all for ending that shitshow as well. Anyone attacking a police officer deserves whatever happens to them, that's MY culture.

      Delete
    3. No one has mentioned either the open liquor containers. Isn't it illegal to consume alcohol in the parks?

      Delete
  22. Where do these people get off? No permit, no insurance, no security and no clean-up? Then the fight broke out, so they go after the police? And damage squad cars? then the City has to clean up the mess? Should be huge fines levied for any non-permitted event.

Many thanks to CWB for reporting this.

  23. That cop had to be shit'n purple twinkies

  24. Supt McCarthy lied on camera to all of Chicago when he said Montrose and other beaches are being manned and watched. This is 100% not true. He also basically said he doesnt care about your northside neighborhoods only the southside where there is more violence. Please citizens say something to him and to Rahm You deserve much better

    1. I remember about 3 years ago the cop shooing me off the lakefront a bit before 10pm. I asked "Isn't the lakefront park open until 11?“. He said something about "Now I'm the cop man, don't argue with me. There are criminals out here ya know?“. So I said, "Well go catch them then!“. Seriously, I can't believe I moved here and pay the prices.

  25. Cappleman keeps saying he is 'just a social worker'. He sure as hell isn't much of an aldercreature. Looks like we have 2 to replace. 'Stickey buns Tommy', and 'clueless Jimmy.'

  26. CWB you hit the big time, linked at SCC ! Congrats on your arrival ! As for the bottle gang, the CPD of yester year would have never let them off that easy. Gas absolutely would have been deployed, along with something that SCC readers would recognize... Its called the "wood shampoo", this is a reference to effective use of the Police nightstick !

  27. The Trib is reporting that around 500 people were in that mess:
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-prosecutors-say-nearly-500-attended-unauthorized-concert-at-montrose-beach-20140715,0,7586725.story

  28. Have they considered perhaps adding meters to the lakefront parking? The alderman made a dumb comment about the need to reduce parking in the area to get less people to go there.

Also, wouldn't someone (maybe a cop?) have noticed that an illegal concert was going on?

    1. No. We are not handed out a list of permits.
