MUGGY: A Rough Wednesday Morning

Ahh. Wednesday. What a great day to get up early and go rob people!

Gunman Gets Virtually-Empty Wallet

The guy who robbed a man at gunpoint near Wellington and Clifton this morning faces several years in prison for a crime that netted him a Levi's wallet and somebody else's school ID card. Several years if they ever catch him, that is.

Police were called to the scene around 1 o'clock this morning by the victim who said the offender displayed a black handgun and took the victim's nearly-empty wallet.

The offender is described as male, black, 5'10" tall, 150 pounds, wearing a black shirt with a graphic design and jeans. He was last seen running eastbound on Wellington. CPD case number is HX289073.

Officers in the neighboring 18th district responded to a similar robbery near the Steppenwolf theater shortly before the Wellington hold-up. In that case, the victim was approached from behind by a man armed with a black handgun. The offender was described as male, black, in his mid-20's, 5'7" tall, wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

Bicyclist Beaten, Robbed Of Guitar in Lincoln Park

Around 2:30AM in Lincoln Park, witnesses reported seeing a bicyclist get knocked from his ride and beaten by a group of men just north of the Biograph Theater on Lincoln Avenue. It turns out that the men were robbing the bicyclist of his guitar.

An ambulance crew treated the victim who described his attackers as five white men in their early 20's. They fled northbound on Lincoln, then west on Wrightwood in a red car.

CPD case number is TBD.

Hi, gang!

At 1:32 this morning, callers reported people being beaten up in the park east of Lake Shore Drive between Addison and Waveland. Officers determined that the incidents were gang-related.

Up to 15 males in a red Jeep and a black car were involved, according to one witness, who last saw the vehicles heading north on Recreation Drive.

Officers ran ID checks on several suspects and learned that one is a convicted gun offender, one is a parolee, and two are Gangster Two Six. Just enjoying the early morning splendors of Lake View, of course.

  1. Walking home from cubs game noticed an officer on almost every corner on Halsted. Hopefully start of a new trend.

    1. They had to make it look good for the TV cameras. If history is any guide, those officers packed up 5 minutes after the reporters were gone.

  2. What a shit hole of a neighborhood this has become....disgusting.

  3. Let's hope the powers to be in CPD, City Hall and Tunney's office start to finally realize what a total cesspool Belmont is becoming. It's always been edgy, but this is getting fecking ridiculous.

    1. No -- you have to stand up and MAKE them KNOW its a cesspool - and don't stop making noise! its only going to get worse as the summer begins to thaw - and we have pride coming up dont forget.

    2. Nah ... all the "pride" has drained out of this once great neighborhood. There may be a "pride" festival and a "pride month" and "pride parade" and of course "pride" special prices in the bars, but there's no sense of "pride" in Boystown anymore. The thugs and thugettes have sucked all the "pride" (and many wallets and cell phones, and many people's dignity) out of it. But hey, this is Lakeview, and out alderman says everyone is welcome, and hell, I'm just one person.

  4. I think what is overlooked is the fact that the bars are over serving our young men. A staggering drunk with a $400 phone makes for an easy target. The bartenders have an obligation to serve responsibly. Also, the security needs to be evaluated as it seems to be the same bars week after week with the fights outside.

    1. Let's blame everyone but not the thugs and lack of police manpower. How about we blame the Mayor for not hiring Police and merging the districts. That's where you place the blame. 5 years of fewer police what do you expect?

    2. There's plenty of blame to go around. We've maintained that there's a Trifecta:

      - Businesses that refuse to take responsibility for what happens outside their front doors.

      - Social service agencies that deny any criminal element amongst their clients and, in some cases, shield offenders from law enforcement.

      - A massive reduction in street-level cops assigned to our district prevents proactive policing, forceful responses to violent incidents, and accurate recording of crimes.

    1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't recreation drive part of the lakefront park? And doesn't the park close when it's dark? (I feel like I've seen a sign posted to that effect.)
If correct, how hard is it for a police cruiser to patrol it? If people are loitering, arrest them.
If the gangbangers are hiding but their cars are parked, then check their plates for any violation that would allow the cops to tow it or boot it.
I'll let others explain it to me but I assume the answer is "there are no cops to patrol it".

    2. Chicago Parks close at 11:00. If CPD swept the park after it closed, would the gangbangers go home, or would they just relocate to Halsted or Belmont/Sheffield? Maybe the area is safer if they stay in the parks away from everyone.

    3. Whether gangbangers are in the park or on Belmont/Sheffield makes no difference. We won't be safer until they realize this area is off limits. Of course that won't happen until we get proper police staffing as was promised us by this hopeful one term mayor and his New Jersey sidekick. A new alderperson would help also.

    4. I will correct you because you are wrong. The area off Rec Drive north of Addison is a huge parking lot for use by high rise dwellers who pay to park there. Therefore, that area is always open to vehicles and their owners. The gangbangers know that so they go there to fight and fuck and rob and harass and create chaos.

    5. Correct ME if I'm wrong but one of my co-workers that lives in a fancy LSD highrise parks her car overnight on Recreation Drive "because it's free" (overnight anyway). I advised against it for the sake of the car.

    6. ....and PS.....I advised her about CWB last Fall but she "refuses to read 'that stuff'".
