CHI-ROCK: 2 Women Hurt In Random Attacks; Man Armed With "Brick or Chunk of Concrete"

UPDATED MAY 7: Both of these cases have been classified as aggravated batteries with dangerous weapons.

UPDATE MAY 14: An arrest has been made.

-------

Two women were injured yesterday evening in what appear to be related, but completely separate attacks by an unknown man in the area.

In the first case, a woman reported that an unknown man jumped out of hiding and struck her in the head "as hard as he could" with a rock, brick, or chunk of concrete near the Walgreens at Halsted and Barry around 4:15PM. Officers called for an ambulance, but the victim declined treatment. A search of the area failed to locate the offender. CPD case HX243267.

Then, at 8 o'clock, witnesses called 911 after an unknown man struck a 21-year-old woman in the head with "something" near the Diversey Brown Line station and then fled southbound on Wilton through the alley. He was not found. CPD case HX243565.

Officers believe the two attacks were the work of the same offender. Witnesses describe the man as male, black, possibly in his late 20's, 5'7" tall, 150 pounds. He was wearing a maroon top and shorts in the first incident and may have worn a running jacket with shorts in the second case.

  1. So was this idiot just being violent for the "fun" of it or did he steal anything from these poor women? I used to hate the idea of Big Brother having cameras everywhere. Somehow, I don't as much anymore. As my girlfriend said, "If you're not doing anything wrong then maybe there's more good than bad that can come from them." I think private citizens having them surrounding their property is an excellent option, too.

    1. Hello Anonymous

      The victims were not robbed.

    2. Amazing how the ivory tower starts to crack when it butts against the brick wall of real-world experience, eh? Not trying to be condescending; I'm glad you're using your own observations to shape your views. In an ideal society, there would be no need for security cameras. Unfortunately, we don't live in one.

  2. What courage it must take for a man to attack a woman...and with a weapon to round out his bravery!

  3. I wonder if this is the same goof who was running around hitting people in the head with a hammer.

  4. Call the Alderman's office and ask if they are aware of this. After all it was just two bricks. No concern for our safety. None.
