Police and the FBI believe that the "Shady Bandit," a female bank robber who held up several TCF Banks on the North Side over the past year, is in custody.
Among the heists credited to "Shady" are two hold-ups of a TCF Bank inside Boystown's Jewel-Osco store.
Preliminary information indicates that Irene Carrera was taken into custody on Tuesday for a probation violation. Cook County records indicate that she had been on probation for shoplifting.
An officer's hunch that Carrera may be the bank robber panned out and Carrera is now charge with one of the five robberies credited to "Shady."
She is being held without bail.

Last week, the FBI announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the "Shady Bandit."
A reward of up to $5,000 remains for information that leads to the arrest of the "Benchwarmer Bandit," a male bank robber who has struck four banks in Boystown, Uptown, and nearby Lake View over the past 3 weeks.
