QUIET WEEK: One Guy Punched At Five Guys

This has been a very good week to be out and about in the neighborhood. There have been few confirmed relevant incidents to report.

A couple of notes:

Just before 9 p.m. yesterday, a man called 911 after a panhandler who was begging outside of Five Guys, 3215 N. Broadway, punched him in the eye.

The offender, described as male, black, 45 years old, 5'3" tall, 150 pounds, wearing a black and gray coat, was last seen walking south on Broadway.

Officers drove the victim around to look for the panhandler, without success. Simple battery case HX116083.

Tuesday 3:10 P.M.
An officer on patrol was flagged down by a CTA bus driver at Broadway and Barry. The driver needed help getting a man who refused to pay off of the bus.

Police spoke with the troublemaker and drove him to his requested destination: The Center on Halsted.

  1. But...but...but...COH doesn't add to the criminality of the neighborhhod. Liars!

  2. You know, I was thinking we made a big mistake with Clark, the pantless mascot, and would now like to replace him with someone more fitting for the neighborhood: McGruff the Crime Dog (and not former Cub first baseman and Tom Emanski booster).

  3. Is it any wonder he was going to COH? The place is a magnet.....and not in a good way.

  4. Wow, I didn't know you could get on a CTA bus, not pay, and be chauffeered to ones destination!
Next time I need to go to the hospital or the bars or wherever, I think I might try that technique.
After all, if one person is "entitled," then shouldn't we all be?

  6. did anyone se the Pam Zekman piece on the plain clothes cops watching the Bears game on the south side? It made me wonder…do we have plain clothes cops in the 19th district? I never see them! I heard in a previous post that at one point we had 5 teams of 8 or 9…Im wondering if they have been taken away from us, no longer exist, or merely just hide and contribute very little to public safety (in which case, why have them?)….any one in the know?

    1. Isn't the reason they are plain clothes not to be obvious they are cops? Thus, they are obviously doing their jobs! :)

    2. we still have them….but they kind of come and go as they please. They work shortened days, congregate at restaurants, and then hang out in their office until they go home. Kind of an entitled group. Im not sure why or when they became so entitled, but to put it bluntly…they are a waste of resources and manpower.

    3. Pam Zekman should be ashamed of herself then we wonder why the cops have such low moral. Frankly I would love to see some uniformed and plain clothes hanging around at Nookie's etc. Instead we have no police presence. Maybe instead of picking on the officers she could follow our worthless Superintendent around or show him drunk in at a Blackhawk's game. Ask him about shooting street lights out while he lived out East.
