BOYSTOWN BANK ROBBERY: Lady Bandit Strikes TCF Branch At Jewel

UPDATE 10:00PM: CWB has obtained this first image of today's bank robbery in progress. The FBI tonight says today's offender struck the same bank in April. Our original report from this afternoon follows.
--------------
A solo bank robber made off with $500 in an afternoon heist at the TCF bank branch inside Boystown's Jewel-Osco store, 3531 N. Broadway at Addison today.

The bandit handed a note to the teller demanding money at 3:52PM. No weapon was displayed.

After reviewing video surveillance, police have updated their description of the offender: female, black, about 40 years-old, 5'6" tall, 150 pounds (also said to have a "large build"), wearing black sunglasses, a black parka with a fur hood, and a black knit cap with diamond-patterned band.

The same branch was robbed almost exactly six months ago, at 3:21PM on May 21.

Police have recorded the incident in CPD case #HW541217.

  1. Handed a note, no weapon was displayed.

Kinda tired of these hucksters coming into a bank with a simple note and the clerk following procedure says "ok". These aren't "bank robberies" as we formerly knew them.

The clerks should be behind protective glass especially in a big city. That gas station on Halsted/Addison is probably next. It usually takes someone getting shot or killed before that glass is installed. This isn't Oklahoma.

    1. I agree. I would never make it as a bank teller because if the robber had nothing but a note I would demand to see a gun or a bomb or SOMETHING. "C'mon lady...give me something to go on here before I hand over the cash."

  2. And PS....one is serving time right now for "robbing" a bank with a can of Spaghettios in another dangerous city.

  3. Every TCF branch inside a Jewel seems more like a pretend bank than a real one. At my own real bank, there is bulletproof glass at the teller counter and a security guard at the door who makes customers take off their sunglasses when entering so they can be identified on camera. But then again, if she only got 500 bucks, maybe extra security isn't warranted.

    1. We just got our hands on it. We've added it to the story.

  5. Something is wrong if you can walk up to that desk with high traffic passing by, just hand a note to the teller with no weapon and get cash handed to you.

    1. That's probably the bank policy for liability reasons. I'm disappointed there was no dye pack or GPS sensor tucked in with the cash though.

    2. That would probably violate someone's civil rights here.

  6. Since this is a federal FBI case, this is one robbery that Rahm/McCarthy cannot sweep under the rug, put on RAP status, or fail to fill out a report on.

(His bitching about the French was another obvious distraction).

    1. I agree...it's a "troubled middle-ager" man.

    2. Not so sure about that. If you look at the other FBI photos from previous robberies, she looks female.

  8. It doesn't matter whether it's a man or a woman or whether a gun was used or not -- it's still a felony and the minimum when the person is caught (and they will be) is 3-7 years, no probation. There was probably an accomplice that cased the store prior to the robbery, by checking to make sure there is no security officer, and few or no customers. The robber wants to get out as fast as possible. But they are still stupid -- they think if they don't use a gun, that they will get off when apprehended. Nope. It's a federal crime. I suspect that the reason the Bank gives them a small amount of money is so that no customers will get hurt. The robber is a dummy -- they are picking TCF because they don't have security windows -- but the police now know their methods -- wear dark sunglasses, change outfits, wear hat to conceal hairstyle, and there's some kind of marking on the robber's wrist. This person is so dumb I can't believe it. Instead of just being grateful to get $500 which they didn't earn, they keep robbing the bank to get more!!! Stupidity is how bank robbers usually get caught. No doubt, wanted posters are now posted with most likely a reward offered, in the bank's offices.

    1. Everyone who robs banks wears hats and dark sunglasses, just so you know. And it's successful - in Florida, they've actually thoguht of banning people wearing both because everyone who works at the bank thinks they'll be hit by those guys (had a gf who was a teller down there).

    2. There is no way he would get 3 - 7 years of prison. Rapists and muggers are out in less than a year.
