BLOTTER: Wednesday Night

A rather calm night in our part of town:

School Street Intruder
A woman in the 1300 block of W. School street reported that an unknown man tried to come through her apartment window at 2:00AM, but she scared him off. The offender, described as a black male with long hair wearing a white shirt with red and blue stripes, fled in an unknown direction. No report was filed.

Swingers
Police and an ambulance responded to Cornelia and Halsted in response to reports of people fighting at 4:10AM. Officers say the two parties went their own ways and the ambulance drove off.

About an hour later, there were two calls from citizens who happened upon beating victims in the same area: one caller found a Hispanic male beaten in the 700 block of W. Cornelia. The other caller reported two beat-up Hispanic men in their 20's were outside of Little Jim's tavern at Cornelia and Halsted.

It is not clear if the victims are related to the 4:10 fight report.

And, Finally...
Some dispatcher humor from Sunday afternoon:
EMS is going to 3600 North Ashland at the Citgo gas station for a 53-year-old male who says he feels like jumping in front of a car. . . .Drive carefully.
An ambulance transported the man to a hospital for evaluation.

  1. That stretch of School st has been seeing plenty of Action lately. It's odd, because I would think the high number of BRAHS in the area leaving the Schoolyard would deter robbers, but nope.

  2. OK...that "Drive Carefully" comment from dispatch is hilarious.

  3. And this is why I ALWAYS close and lock my windows at night. I hate it. It's a chore and it makes my apartment warm. But I am only one floor up and I feel confident someone could easily get in. It is especially important to properly secure your home if you're a female. Things can easily be replaced, however being sexually assaulted is just about every woman's worst nightmare. I am on the 1200 block of Henderson, and I have been telling everyone about the blog and the crime. Thank you for the information.

Whoops! 3600. We'll make the correction. Thanks, A!

  6. Use the front/welcome area of the Belmont stop to warn people about the crime, and, to let them know which business in the area are helping, and which ones to avoid or boycott. Have about 10 volunteers covering the morning and evening rushes. Do this for two weeks straight, and trust me, the business will get the message.

  7. For Chiraq reader's sake, who might be scouting their prey. If you come through my window, you will not leave alive.

    Cheers.
