PHOTOS: CTA Releases Pix Of Belmont Robbery Suspect

The Chicago Transit Authority has released photos of a woman suspected in the attempted robbery and apparent pepper spraying of a victim outside of the Ann Sather restaurant on Belmont last Wednesday morning.

We're happy to see some photos being issued so the community can help the police.

Now, how about circulating pix of the perpetrators who carried out some of the other 170 robberies this year that didn't take place outside the alderman's flagship restaurant? We know photos of other offenders exist. Get 'em out there.

UPDATE: CWB readers have noted the poor quality of this bulletin. We cannot find a direct source from CTA. Every online resource has the same blurry images: Alderman Tom Tunney's pageDNAinfo, and Lakeview Patch, as examples.

  1. Why does it take 5 days to supply a photo?

  2. In all seriousness, do you really think those thumbnails will accomplish anything?

  3. Why does it take an event like this happening on the alderman's own turf to make it out with a photo. Indeed, where ARE photos of all the thugs who have been destroying Lakeview this year? I don't wish bad on anyone, but if these kinds of events keep happening in Tommy's front door, maybe he'll finally be inspired to get off his duff and do something about this neighborhood thug (and, in this case, thugette) cancer that is eating up our neighborhood, cell by cell by cell.

  4. Hi CWB -- is there a link to the original doc available? The popup is small and pixelated -- is there a larger version available somewhere? Thanks for all you do!

  5. We are able to take crystal clear high resolution 3-D photos of a cat's whiskers from space stations orbiting 10,000 miles above the Earth's surface, yet the CTA can only supply grainy blurry photos of a criminal 6 feet from the camera.

We wish, Anonymous. Every source we've found is blurry.

  7. Is it possible to get a larger size bulletin? Would be nice to see a closer view of the possible criminal's face.

I've been searching for 15 mins on the CTA site for CTA Security lookout, alert/news, etc. and any other possible appropriate search term. Wouldn't you logically expect that you'd be able to find this under News or Alerts or something? But not the case.

There's nothing I can find on the CTA site about this. Stunning.

How mind boggling that they're not putting important alerts like this
on their site to get out immediately to their hundreds of passengers using that station or in that neighborhood for immediate awareness.

If you have a site location for this, I would appreciate it if you could post it so as to see the original piece.

Thank you .. for all this site is doing to stay on top of everything that’s so very alarming about changes in these neighborhoods.

  8. The larger I try to make the photo, the more it looks like Oprah.

  9. Funny how something that happens 5 days ago in front of the Alderman's restaurant, sudden HE wants the perp caught.

  10. CWB Thanks for posting the pic and all of your efforts. I hope that this criminal miscreant is apprehended more sooner than later.

Thank you, too, Anonymous. We appreciate your readership, support, and concern for our neighborhood.

  12. I had no idea the Belmont CTA station was so enormous...with shops and services and even a Swedish American restaurant.
I guess it also has a nightclub and 24 hr dining choices.
Funny how things are so flexible in Tunnochio's world.

  13. Are the photos from Ann Sathers security cameras and that's why the CTA doesn't have them? This alert is being put out as a CTA bulletin but that may be because of Tunney's influence. REGARDLESS, I wish there were more of these bulletins to take advantage of all the cameras in the area and all the people who can help identify or watch out for the perps.

  14. I hope the new speed cameras have similar resolution.

  15. Interesting that the police department didn't provide these photos to the public. Could it be because the images are of poor quality as is often the case? Or more importantly could it be that they wanted to confirm that the person that the CTA cameras captured was identified by the victim and witnesses as the person who actually committed this crime???

  16. Question CWB guys,
Did this attack occur in front of Alderman Tunney's restaurant, Ann Sathers or did it occur in the CTA station?

If it took place as I and most readers understand, outside the restaurant, the changing of facts vital to closing this case with the apprehension of this perp, then we have a far larger problem than thug(s) on non-thug(s) crime.
For the Alderman to cherry-pick this case, by placing the CTA Police "Lookout Bulletin" which includes photographic evidence of the offender and a conveniently misleading geographic description of the case events on his official website for the 44th Ward is at best disturbing and at worst, warrants close evaluation of his ability to act in the interest of his constituency rather than his own.

    Hi Anonymous,

The sidewalk outside of Ann Sather has been reported as the scene of the attempted robbery. The alderman's community relations director told DNAinfo last week that police were reviewing video from the CTA station and Ann Sather, so it seems accurate. We will know for sure once the city releases the crime data from quarantine, probably within 48 hours.

Yes, it is interesting to learn that the one time we get a bulletin about a robbery in the neighborhood is when it happens outside the alderman's restaurant during business hours.

  20. Regarding the exact address where this robbery occurred, the CPD ClearMap web site plots the robbery at 909 W. Belmont, which is Ann Sathers' address.
