ODDS AND ENDS: A New Approach?

Positive news from our inbox tonight:
I just came from the Triangle Neighbors meeting.
Commander Voulgaris opened with some interesting comments.
Refreshingly, he did not lead with stats but stood and spoke about several concrete actions that he was taking to deal with the neighborhood.  He was not being attacked, and I think that gave him a better opportunity to speak more calmly.
Unfortunately I did not have pen/paper and could not write anything down, but having heard previous lame talks, I will say this is the first time he actually laid out specific actions he was taking.  I was impressed for a change.  It seemed like the heat was on.
I do remember him saying he's requested a mounted unit, he's adding to the foot patrol and placing undercover/plain clothes officers on the street.
Hopefully you'll have someone who can provide specifics, but I at least had to report what seemed like progress.
That is a very positive indication. We've said it over and over, get past the denials and excuses, get on to the solutions.  Let's keep moving in that direction....together.

CBS2 runs a story tonight about a Lake View martial arts school that is offering a couple of free introductory classes.

Text and video is online.

Three weeks after we submitted a report to the city about the large swaths of graffiti atop buildings on Belmont Avenue, the "artwork" remains untouched.

Can you tell which of the pictures to the right was taken on August 17 and which one was taken tonight?

One of these days...

And finally, a little peek at life as a police officer in the 19th district:
DISPATCHER: Person down at Sheridan and Broadway. female, black in a purple tutu laid out on the ground. Fire is rolling.
• • •
DISPATCHER: Person down at Clark and Fletcher. A male who has consumed a bottle of mouthwash is bleeding from the head behind the mattress store.
• • •
OFFICER: Notify [the 19th district lock-up] that we're coming in with one very uncooperative citizen.
19TH DISTRICT DESK: Male or Female?
OFFICER: It...looks like he's a male.

  3. ^^Wow.

Tunney is a liar, and a lapdog for Rahm at this point. He needs to lose his job, but beyond that, we need to vote Rahm OUT of office.

  4. You can't wait 2 more years for Tunney.

Colorado just recalled 2 Legislators on totally frivolous issues of new laws on tightening background checks and ammunition rounds on guns simply because they didn't like them and couldn't wait until the next election.

Can an inept, crooked, lying Alderman be recalled whose only issues are Wrigleyville rooftop owners and muggings in front of his restaurant ?

  5. According to my calculations, as owner of Ann Sathers from the age of 25 and alderman for the last countless number of years, TUNNEY sure must have a lot of MONEY, HONEY.

  6. Tuesday night, at 7:15, I was walking east on Barry near Southport and noticed an undercover SUV in a nice blue color. I don't remember the make, but it wasn't the typical Chevy/GM vehicle. I even remarked to my husband that it was interesting to see an undercover SUV because in this side of Lake View we don't see many cops. Then, of course, when I got home I realized they were looking for the two guys that robbed the dude on Belmont/Racine.

  8. Lies! ALL of your plainclothes Officers are in uniform and working a corner at safe passage! No one is plainclothes at the moment. Pay attention people do not just goto damn meetings. Look around. Maybe strike up a friendly comversation with a regular Officer see what he or she thinks.

It's true, and they are disbanding two more tact teams next week. It's easy to say that there will be "undercover officers" in the crowds. How would you ever know if they were there or not. The truth is, it's all smoke and mirrors.

Sadly, anonymous, this would fit the long-established pattern of lies rather than action from our police executives and politicians.

We try to report everything the police and alderman say they are doing to address the issue. It has not taken long in the past for the truth to be revealed. I.E. An 11-minute response time for a 911 call that came 30 feet away from The CPD's Big Empty Bus.
