ODDS & ENDS: Short Hop

From our notes:

Thursday, August 22, 12:07AM
A Taco Burrito House customer reported that a female snatched his phone and her boyfriend/accomplice was still on-scene at Broadway and Barry. Resolution unclear.

Tuesday, August 20, 11:26PM
A man was found down on Wellington Avenue, outside of Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The hospital called for an ambulance to, presumably, transport the man to Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Friday, August 16, 3:32PM
Passers-by near Lake Shore Drive and Belmont reported that an older male, white, with gray hair and a beard, wearing camouflage pants was "swinging a dead rabbit around in a rage."

  1. I saw the crazy guy with the dead rabbit myself. I was on the lake front by the tunnel that comes from Barry. I figured the police wouldnt do anything so I left him be.

  2. I wonder how much the ambulance charged the guy to carry him from the sidewalk to the entrance.

    1. Many years ago, a teenager was shot in the alley of Winchester Av about 100 ft from the ER entrance of the old Ravenswood Hospital. The staff there refused to go out and get the kid, citing some type of liability issue. Police on scene picked the kid up and carried him in, where he later died. I do not recall if the lack of quick medical response was a contributing factor in his death, but this story doesn't surprise me.

  3. You mean how much did the ambulance charge us taxpayers to transport him! Highly unlikely he'll be paying anything for it.

  4. I saw the crazy old guy a few weeks ago standing in the middle of Ashland by the Jewel. He threw a dead squirrel at my car, but luckily, the squirrel landed short.

  6. It is a liability issue with the hospital and transport. My husband works in the industry. Sadly, in such a highly litigious society, this is what we have come to.
