LINK: Report Graffiti To The City

There's been a bit of conversation in our comments and elsewhere lately about graffiti problems.

Submitting graffiti removal requests to the city is painless. We've added a direct link to the online request form to the green ribbon at the top of every CWB page. The form allows you to upload a photo of the "artwork," too.

Recommended.

Here are few pix that have come our way, including one by an apparently well-read jackass:

Are you being serious? Get on the red line at Fullerton and ride it just one stop to Belmont. It basically looks like Harlem in 1975. Nightly graffiti happens and is sometimes sprayed off within days. The mini market at Broadway and Oakdale had gang signs on it on Sunday morning.

  4. Does anyone know how to report graffiti in the park or at the lake front? It's not listed on the 311 page. There is a lot of graffiti on the concrete steps by the lake between Belmont and Diversey.

  5. There are some tags on the poles right outside my house, and I'd like to just paint them over myself (they're on the black street poles), but I'm betting I'd get arrested for using the can of Krylon black spray paint which isn't legal in the city. I do have a reflective yellow vest, maybe I'll just throw it on and look official and maybe they'll leave me alone.

    1. This would most likely work. Especially if a pick up is parked nearby

  6. Anton Cermak - Try papering over with NRA stickers, good for a laugh.

Is this pure unadulterated "Chicagoese," or did the poster write his statement this way on purpose. Either way, it's bloody accurate.

  9. This website hasn't be updated in a long time, however, if you go to the gang listing, you will find clickable names. At the head of those pages, you will find links to pictures and drawings of their tags, tats, signs, etc.

  10. The saddest gang sign I've seen lately is when I was on the 146 bus almost to the Belmont exit. Someone had tagged in HUGE letters all across the cement steps along the harbor on that curve that overlooks the yaught club. Really pissed me off. It's been scrubbed off thank God. That is such a pretty area and to see that was really revolting.

  11. @Anonymous: You report the graffiti on the lakefront steps the same way you report any other graffiti. Did you read the post? You will need to give as specific a location as possible when you report it. I have reported lakefront graffiti before and the city has removed it.

they wont arrest you for covering over graffiti.

This writer has covered over alot of graffiti with no arrests so far.

    Got one ticket.

And it was thrown out of court.
