GUNPOINT ROBBERY HALF-BLOCK FROM MAYOR'S HOME: Possible Return of "Two Thugs, One Gun" Offenders

A robbery around 10:45PM Thursday in Lake View was pulled off by offenders whose technique and descriptions parallel the "Two Thugs, One Gun" robberies that led Chicago Police to issue a community alert for the area on August 1.

According to a police lieutenant on-scene, Thursday's robbery at gunpoint occurred on the southeast corner of Hermitage and Cullom, a half-block north of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's police-protected home.

The robbers got a way with the victim's messenger bag, which contained his cell phone.

The CPD's August 1 community alert described the "Two Thugs One Gun" offenders as two male African Americans or male, Hispanics, 18-35 years of age. In each incident, the offenders were seen exiting a vehicle prior to the armed robbery or seen leaving in a vehicle afterwards. Vehicle descriptions varied but included a red 2 door Toyota; a beige sedan; and a black Chevrolet.

According to detectives, the offenders were responsible for a robbery at gunpoint a few blocks north of tonight's robbery on July 30th.

Tonight's offenders fled the scene eastbound toward Ashland in a dark red foreign, possibly Japanese-made car. Offender descriptions:

#1) male, black, 5'10", in his 20's, beige hoodie, black pants, armed with a handgun
#2) male, Hispanic, 5'10", in his 20's, dressed in all black, heavier set than #1.

In the July 30th robbery on Hermitage, the offenders were described as two Hispanic men aged 20 to 30. One was tall, slim, and wore a gray hooded sweatshirt. The other offender was about 5'10" tall and appeared heavier set than the first offender.

The "Two Thugs One Gun" offenders have occasionally hit in sprees, victimizing 2 or 3 people per night in separate attacks. Police believe they struck several times in the Lake View area, including multiple attacks along the Southport corridor.
