GUNSHOTS REPORTED: Aldine Resident Attacked Near Halsted

9 June 2013

Chicago Police Department Case #HW310719

Officers responded to a call of four gunshots heard on Aldine Avenue, just east of the worthless Halsted Street police camera this morning. A witness on scene saw three black men and one black female drive away from the scene in a 4-door silver sedan. At the same time, a second 911 caller from Aldine reported that they heard a burst of noise similar to fireworks.

As officers toured the area with the eyewitness, a third call came in. A woman who lives on Aldine less than 100 feet from where the shots were reported said her son had been attacked on the street. The victim, who was kicked in the head by his attacker(s), was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center via ambulance. He was not shot.

The exact nature of this incident is not yet clear.

CWB has contacted 19th district officers to determine if police believe this morning's crime is related to a robbery at gunpoint in the exact same spot on Melrose last week in which a group of attackers escaped in a 4-door silver sedan, possibly a Chevy Impala. Officers detained five occupants of a silver Chevy Impala after last week's attack, but charges had not been filed as of our last inquiry. The 19th district, in turn, directed us to the Office of News Affairs.

UPDATE 9 JUNE 2013: Added detail of second caller who reported sounds similar to fireworks. Added detail regarding proximity of "shots fired" call and the reported attack. Added final paragraph above.

UPDATE 17 JUNE 2013: Added case number.
