Chicago Police Department Case #HW338524

A man walking down a Boystown sidewalk was grabbed, pulled into an alleyway, and sexually attacked a few minutes after midnight today. The shocking attack took place just a half block east of the Halsted Strip, between two residences at 727 W. Cornelia Avenue. The highly emotional victim described his attacker as a male, black, in his late 30’s, 5’9” tall, 180 pounds, with black and gray hair, wearing black jeans and a backwards baseball cap.

As background, "rape" is not the name of a crime in Illinois. The state classifies crimes commonly known as rape--forced sexual penetration, penetration in which the other party is not capable of giving legal consent, etc--as criminal sexual assault.
The location of this morning's attack.
UPDATED 5 JULY 2013: Added case number. Added Illinois law information.

  1. Damn - Do we need to start handing out whistles?

  2. Great...that's the alley/parking lot behind my apartment building. A lot of bad stuff happens back there due to the fact that parking lot is not visible from the street. I call the cops all the time to report the sex, drug deals, and general mischief that I see on a nightly basis. The police rarely respond before the perpetrators leave the parking lot, however, so this kind of stuff happens all the time back there.
